Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Update, bled the brakes and tried to drive the truck. Badnews.. Still doesn't want to move anywhere or anything. I try shifting around The idle doesn't even bump down when in drive or anything. The t-case is rebuilt, the sleeve between the tranny and t case has been replaced, Also the convertor IS bolted up. I have no idea whats wrong :/

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Might be an obvious thing, but do you have enough tranny fluid in there?

And for another obvious thing, the t-case is in gear right? Not neutral?

Will the rear wheels turn or just the fronts are locked up?

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Sweet good progress it looks like its starting to get there. That sucks about all the set backs though! Hope with all the new parts you will be able to get it up running and go cruise it and enjoy it

Thanks man, its only the beginning

Set backs suck, I could be spenging this money on 37's right now instead of the damn tranny. But i'll have total faith that nothing in the drivetrain will break.

The dark gray sounds cool, something like a charcoal?

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Yeah something like charcoal but dark. Who knows, I'm also thinking of cutting and extending the frame and put a crew cab on.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Looks like a cool project, you inspired me to go mess with my 4x4 burban.
Hope your tranny works out. The final straw with my k5 was the trans going out, and I practically gave it away Posted via Mobile Device

Finally picked up a regular th350. No lock up convertor bull****. Also decided to rebuild it since I had the parts anyways.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Thanks for the comment, I'm really proud of it. I just picked up an 84 gmc Swb 4x4 today, 1200 bucks for a no rust and 73,000 mile Swb! And I drove it home 160 miles!
Ill start a build thread soon Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
I bought my truck for 900 with only rust on the inner fenders and passenger door. then I did this. Kinda regret it.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
So after sending my autowrecker special th350 to the trans shop to get hot tanked. I get a call back saying that i should consider getting another transmission. Its fixable but pretty damaged is what they said. the 1-2 accumulator is in rough shape on the outer core. The little snap ring just fits in snug so i think it'll be okay. and some other nicks that might leak but i'll just weld those up.
I found that the oil pump is pooched when i had it apart shift kit and valvebody went together okay. messed up on one part. forgot about a couple seals. also the output shaft needs to be replaced its all stripped.

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
]All ready to go back in. I'm ordering a convertor and a pan tomorrow locally, So hopefully have this stuff in friday night!
Just wanted to say this forum is awesome for ideas. I think i'm going to go with "mineral grey" Its off a 99-04 mustang. it'll look great with black wheels with the gold beadlocks. I've been really happy lately. I got a new job in a welding shop making more money And I also will have my truck soon! And the color i'm thinking about

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Color scheme sounds good! Don't forget some gold grade-8 hardware if you are doing beadlocks!

Re: 79 Silverado long box build
Thats what i'm thinking. Black bumpers/rollbar/black rims with gold bolts would look great on the color.
