Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
Converted the stock column steering shaft to a 3/4 DD. It turned out great with no slop and a tight fit.
I'm running a 3/4DD-3/4DD to 3/4DD-9/16 26spl. on the FR1503 manual rack. |

Ah .... the ass-end. If it turns out as well & as clean as the front .... I building one of these too!!
You guessing on the steering right now or have you mocked up a block, head & exhaust?? Nice job so far. Ratty 46 Last edited by ratty 46; 07-30-2010 at 10:24 PM. |

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
I'm good on the block & head. With the headers i might have to make some room. I have Flowtech's that dump in the rear.
Thanks |

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
Looks SWEET! Do you plan on removing the trailing arm crossmember with the cab on? Those rivits on the top are gonna be fun with the cab mounted! Good luck and keep going on the progress! I hope to be ordering my trailing arms here shortly! Again very nice build I'm jealous!

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
Thanks all.
Well i got started on the rear half and let me tell you those 4 little rivets on top of the trailing arm crossmember are a pain in the A$$. It took me 2 hours of grinding, air hammer and BFH to get that crossmember out of there. But its out and on to the next phase What worked best for me was to grind off the heads on the inside of the top rail (4 rivets) and use the air hammer to punch them threw the top from the inside. Never had to try and get between the cab and frame. once the crossmember was out i grinded what was left of the top rivets and air hammered them the rest of the way out with a punch bit. Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
Quick question . The previous owner of my frame , '65, decided to take out the crossmember. It was halfway done so I had to finish removing the rivets. So, here I am to put it back in. The holes are 7/16. Does your PB use 1/2 bolts to mount the new crossmember and drill the frame? I figure since I have it out,I will also compensate and center the rear wheels. Thanks, don't mean to take over. Awesome work !

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
No welding on the rear section?? I know the bolts will probably hold it but .... I'm so much happier when things are welded on vs. bolted.
Looks good. Your thoughts?? Ratty 46 |

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build
This thing is rock solid with 64 grade 8 bolts and nylocs. But i am going to do some welds on the inside bottom of the notch to frame area just to complete the box. Was waiting till i weld on the bag mounts to do it. Mocking up the 12 bolt rear now. Added a picture of my scrap pile.
