Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Okay so I have been away from my truck build for a few weeks. I have been out of town for almost 3 weeks due to vacation, work and visiting family. I hope to get some work done it this next week.
I am now leaning towards shaving my drip rails off on the cab. I have knicked a few areas of the drip rail and trying to get perfect will take some work. I also just don't like the drip rails the more I look at them. Right now would be the time to do it if I ever was. I also think it would be much easier since I have the outer roof skin off and it would also clear up my debate on how to weld on the outer skin. I am going to sit on this for a few days before I tear into it. Tomorrow my new lift is going on the Jeep.. I have the whole day set aside to devote to installing the lift kit that has been sitting in my garage for a few months now.

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Most of the ones I've seen (even the ones done by really good metal men) end up making the windshield look out of place. The drip rail on these trucks serves to divide the roof line from the windshield frame. When you remove it and blend them together, the windshield placement looks too low and the leading edge of the roof too thick and heavy. The areas around the door window frames will also need considerable work to get the gaps correct. From pictures I've seen on the forum, the side view can be made to look fairly nice. I have a more difficult time with the front view.
IMO, if the drip rail is somewhat ratty, a more practical solution is to buy the $120 stainless trim set and snap it on. Hides beaucoup evil. However, I do recognize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some guys like roll pans, some like bumpers. It's what makes this big ol' ball of dirt go around.

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Vic you are right.. I felt the same way for a long time about how it doesnt look right above the windsheild. However i saw a pic of a blue truck I liked that had shaved drip rails but on closer inspection it looks like they photoshoped the area above the windsheild to darken it.
I think I am going to leave the drip rail unless I mess up attaching the outer roof panel. (-;

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
It think it depends on what look you are going for. If your going for a complete custom shaved everything look then shave the drip rail. If not I would leave it and save yourself the headache of all the work involved. I think these trucks look the best resto modded with custom wheels and suspensions but relatively stock looking bodies.

Hey Brian, Sorry I'm late to the party. Looks like you've taken on quite the project but you are making it look easy. Way to dig in.

It has been a long time! How have you been? Are you still working on your orange truck? Also are you still over in Liberty area? As for the build thanks. It has been slow going with my work schedule and the heat in my garage. I also have some sort of sickness for the last few weeks so I havent done much. I am finally on meds for a sinus infection so I feel a little better today. I am really hoping once cool weather hits to have the outer roof panel completed and be working on the rockers and floors. Another slow down was adding my new lift and 35in tires to my 2012 jeep. I will try to post some pics of the jeep so atleast you guys have something to look at.

I hear you on the work thing getting in the way. I've been traveling so much and with the move I can barely get the new place done before winter so when I am home I can work on the trucks. Everything is looking great on your build, keep up the good work and I will chime in every now and then. |

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Thanks but I am hoping you can say that whew it's 100% finished. I still need to attach the outer shell and it will most likely will be the toughest part.

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Okay I know I havent had many updates lately but I just got some bling for the truck build. I found a deal on some 2006 Z06 Corvette brake calipers. I have both fronts and one rear. I plan to pick up another rear on ebay at some point. I also will be using the Kore3 brakets for these. These are freaking massive!!!!!
Okay and here is the new lift and tires on the Jeep with the Fox resorvior shocks.

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Thanks Bryce.
I also failed to mention that I did get a cart built and my cab is now sitting on it. This should make it easier to work on now that the garage is cooling off. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
I havent posted in awhile and to be honest I have made a ton of progress. I have been working on the truck here and there but not any major progress. I did get new front cross drilled rotors for my Z06 calipers. i also have new front and rear brake pads. I am still looking to pic up rear rotors and another rear caliper. Here is a pic of the rotors. They are massive!

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
So I havent posted on here in awhile. I have been working on some stuff but it is slow going. The garage isnt heated and I have been really busy with work lately. I am starting to dig into the rockers. Somewhere along the line someone capped the original rockers so I had to pull those off before i get to the OE ones. I have them both out and plan to replace the inner rockers and the door edge of the floor. It also amazing how much rust and gunk falls out of the rockers when you get them off.

Re: Project "Edna Marie"
Well I have been distant once again. They great thing is that I now have most of my home projects completed. My neighbors are building a house and it is not completed and they had to move out of their house. To make a long story short we told them they could live in our basement. They gave me some cash in exchange to get my basement bathroom finished so most of my time has been spent working on getting that in working order. That is now finished but I have a family of four living with us which cuts into the truck working time. However have snuck 2 days of working on my firewall. Below is my progress. I am still learning how to weld so some of it needs cleaned up and I will also need to skim it will some filler because the factory firewall is fair from straight and smooth then you add that will my welding and grinding skills it will need some work. Below are the pics of the firewall. I figure I still will have 2-4 days worth of work to get it the way I want it.
