Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Finally got my power steering hoses in place and thru the frame trying to maintain the clean look under the hood. Also here are some picts of what the sway bars came out like. also had a misshap by the glass guy he was reinstalling the new windshield I had bought last month and while working in the weatherstrip he cracked it oh well.

Hi Mike
The glass guy is a personal friend of mine and he said not to worry that he will replace it free of charge. I give him a TON of business so he will be ok.

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Front and rear glass are installed!!!! We are working hard on extending the new wire harness in the engine compartment to see if we could tow the truck to the muffler shop tomorrow..as I am still missing the steering shaft from the column to the steering gear box. I need to figure out how to attach my new aluminum radiator to the rad support...

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Literally we spent this whole week running all the wiring inside the engine compartment. We hid every single wire. We had to extend and sotter every single wire. We still have to make the brackets to hold the new aluminum radiator once this is done we can go ahead and install the condenser,drier,a/c line, tranny cooler, reinstall the bumper, grille and front lites. It sounds simple but it is far from it everything has to be modified somehow and besides that, manage a shop with over 120 cars and trucks a day coming thru. I am thinking that possibly by next friday this bucket will be ready to go hopefully but I know if it is not one thing it is another.
We connected the battery and everything is working so far, we even cranked the motor got oil pressure and fuel to the rail maybe tomorrow we will finish the radiator install so that I can break in the motor at least and maybe tow it to the muffler shop monday we will see.

I appreciate all the nice comments and views of my rebuild thread....

Cant wait to see this one done. Do you not have a steering shaft or are you getting a custom one?

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

I am using a steering shaft from classic perform that was supposed to be a complete assembly but when we received it it did not come with the rag joint, the old one I have is from my manual steering set upwhich is alot smaller, we contacted jeff at Classic Perform to see why it was not complete (still waiting on an answer). I bought one this morning at Advance auto problem solved!!!!!
Made by Lares Part#201 for $35.00

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Radiator, overflow tank, tranny cooler & fans are all on and connected. The motor is tuned and it absolutely sounds terrific. Tomorrow we are redoing the back brakes, putting the front bumper, headlites, hood hinges and the hood. Monday sometime finally truck should be going to the muffler shop. It is almost time to order my wheels and tires. We have been so busy and there is not enough hours in the day to take care of business and finish this thing off. Here are some more picts of the progress...

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Well I finished installing the grille, front bumber, new headlite bezels it is so funny how everyone always says exact replacement nothing fits at all everything has to be modified somewhere somehow. Anyways she is alive and ready I drove it open headers and this SOB is out of control fast,,, man am I happy. All I have left is installing the new three point seatbelts, exhaust and rebolt the bench seat back in.

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

Took the truck open header with no hood for a drive around my shop (Am I glad nobody called the cops) it felt awesome. I have to adjust the throttle cable and have to reseal a couple of plugs one near the water pump, one on the manifold a little drop of coolant zipped out. I am pleasantly surprised that I have not had any other issues. The hood is going on today and off to the muffler shop hopefully as the weather is freaking horrible it is raining cats and dogs. Here are a few shots out of my reconditioned shop.

Re: Al's 71C10 Rebuild

I went and had the exhaust done on the truck today I went with Stainless Dynomax mufflers I changed my mind about the flowmasters. It came out awesome in my opinion the guys did it exactly how I had it visualized. You can not see it from the side and the view from the back is almost non existent...It sounds terrific at idle and even better at high speeds.
Let me know what you all think..

I think it looks good the way it is. why not stay with the wheels you have? they're a classic, and look like they belong on the truck.

Your truck looks absolutely sick. I have a 72 Cheyenne Super I'm resto-modding and was unsure about sticking with the two tone. After seeing your truck there isnt a doubt in my mind. Also, congrats on the new one, my son is 9 months old and will get my Super when he's old (and mature) enough to enjoy it. Keep up the good work, I'm drooling.
