Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

So i made my chassis a little bit too tall. The worst part is i knew that i was doing it but kept going which makes me the most mad haha. So im having to go back and modify it a little bit. Not a big deal, just a set back that i wasnt expecting... Ill throw up some pics here in a bit.

Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

I saw said 93 dually fenders? chevy dodge or ford? I am getting ready to build my low dually (only running 35's or 37's) I just need to know what fenders you had for sure. then the rest is up to the body man! lol

Awesome build!

Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

Hey chris! I just responded to your question on youtube haha. Ill send ya a P.M. with all the details n such but in a nutshell im not using the ones you see on the truck cause with the 54" boggers they end up being not wide enough and the length didnt work out. So i made some out of sheet metal and sofar they have taken a whole damn 4x8x.16ga sheet to make! lol Hope to work somthing out! Oh yeah and thanks for taking intrest in the truck.

There all on my phone! Ill transfer them to a computer here in a bit. So just as an update, ive put the frame together as one piece. Welded in a buncha crossmembers, and have motor and mid mount plates for the engine and trans to solid mount everything.

I also moved my stuff back to my house from the shop i was working at, was just a little bit of a trek away and i barely got to see my wife anymore! At least with it at my house she can sweep the floor and choose what radio station every once and a while haha.

Project is coming along just is a daunting task.

Ok so heres the hang up i was talking about. When i got finished welding in one side of my frame i cut the tacks off and it sprung up significantly off the table. I knew at that point that the frame had gotten too hot and warped so heres a few pics of the first hiccup haha. I woulda taken more but i was in a bad mood from it warping after the first one didnt even though i tried to be very sporatic with my welds. Eh owell. I just gotta make sure the bows are going opposite directions so i can pull them back together

Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

So the problem now was the bottom part of the frame where the bottom links mount up are too tall. The only part that upsets me is that i knew it in the back of my head the whole time but still kept building around it haha. So i just had to cut the top part off and deal with it.

Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

Are you going to lower the body down or keep it up high? I know that would make you remove the floor and require a lot more work, but i was just wondering.

The rig looks awesome. Love the full Monster Truck style frame. Really makes this thing awesome. What are you going to go with as far as suspension? I love this rig BTW

Thanks man! Well in regards to suspension im gonna run king 3.0 coilovers with a remote bypass resivor with Sway away sway arms and king 2.0 bump stops. For the links im gonna run friggen huge 3 1/2 dom. 375 tube with 1.5 large evolution machine and fab heim joints. For the body the floor has already been cut out hahaha, im gonna lower the body so that it sits into the frame more if that makes sense.
When you make a truck like this the major concern is trying to make the center of gravity as low as possible hince why the motor is mounted in between the frame rails. Id like to make it so that the wheel wells will actually be functional so when its done it will just look like an over sized stock suburban. If that makes sense, so it wont be sky high with like 2ft between the tires and wheel wells, the tires will sit inside the fenders which will give it a real cool look in my opinion.
Thanks for the questions i like hearing what others think good or bad!

Re: 540 BBC 68 Burb Dually 54" Boggers on Rocks

I think I pictured exactly what you said, and it was answering my question perfectly! You will be lowering the body down to as low as possible and building a custom floor. Did I get it right?

The links and suspension setup is going to be great. I am... er... was running king 2.5's on my Ranger. The performance of those shocks is just awesome. My only question is will the 3.0 be big enough to handle the weight of the rocks with 6 massive boggers??

I know they make a King Kong shock that is a 4.0, but i think it is only in a bypass shock configuration.

Man this is one of my favorite builds on any of the forums I'm on.

I'm just wondering, I have never seen a monster truck being built, and i have loved them since i was a kid, so i am asking a lot of questions.

Thanks man i really do appreciate it! So the 3.0 will work you basically just need to determine the unsprung weight of the truck. So the rockwells and boggers are irrevalent of the equation. Its all the weight above the axles which matters if that makes sense. The king kong shocks are what are used for like pre runner baja trucks. There friggen huge i saw them at sema this past year! Ill post up a pic if i can find it, but they are just so big cause of the bypass resivior used for high impact desert racing.
Most monster trucks use nitrogen shocks like night stalkers or patrick enterprise shocks. I think only a few run coilovers like adam anderson off the top of my head.
Hopefully ill have the floor built and put in in the next few days. The rocker boxes were all rotted out so that took a little bit to fix. Im doing diamond plate floor which will look real cool when its done!

Keep firing away the questions!!!

Sounds great man! What size shocks are you going with? (length wise?)

Yes, the kongs are ginormous. A couple friends in So cal ran them on the rear of their F150s and tundras. I was picturing this thing being airborn...

Hey buddy, the shocks are 18" travel so i think there somthing like 46" in total length so at ride height there about 37" which gives you 9" of travel each way. Oh and im definatly gonna jump this bad boy, a junk yard already told me i can crush as many cars as i want as long as i provide them with a case of beer!
