Re: Took the 2k mile truck out today

I love the idea of keeping it original. I don't get the idea of not wanting to put miles on it though. It's not exactly a 69 Z28 with a 302.... Or a V8 high option truck. If it's got a six banger and panted bumpers, drive it everywhere!

This base truck in this condition is something special, comparing it to a one year only Camaro is not really fair. I'll stick to comparing it to pickups in general. IMO, super clean base model pickups ( regardless of the mileage) are always much harder to find than higher optioned chrome trimmed pickups. Reason, most base models were purchased by businesses, farmers or governments and worked hard and destroyed first. Most higher end CST's or Cheyennes were bought by private owners and used as a second car or pleasure recreation hobby type vehicles and had an easier more well cared for life. Its an important and underpresented pristine piece of Chevrolet pickup history.

Re: Took the 2k mile truck out today

i have mixed feelings about driving a truck like that. Its essentially a time capsule of the era in which most of us probably wish we lived in. You could probably rent it out to museums make so cash on it and never loose ownership. i would almost build a look alike truck that you drive and keep that baby in a vacuum container. you cant reverse the odometer (Legally) but you can have two trucks.

That's a good idea.
If you could figure a way out to show and display it for a few bucks...then that would 'get it out there' without having to log many miles on it to do so.

A truck like that deserves to be seen for sure and used as a reference for other trucks under restoration, etc.

Very nice truck

All Good

Re: Took the 2k mile truck out today

I usually take it to the all truck nationals every year, and maybe a cruise night. But that's about it. Just enough to keep it all working. I didnt buy it to drive. To me it's more like a display piece, or an expensive piece of furniture lol

Re: Took the 2k mile truck out today

its also hard to tell on these trucks. Im pretty sure anything pre 1987 only had 5 digit odometer. which means every 99,000 miles it rolls over to zero again. its obvious thats not the case with your truck but i know my truck only reads like 40k or something like that but i also know as a third generation family vehicle it has rolled over at least 3 times if not more.

i see a lot of for sale ads where c10 owners claim to have trucks under 100k miles and its so obvious that they are lying you just want to call them out on it. I just hope people arent as gullible as the ones who make the ads think they are.

Look at how many vehicles are in his signature!!! I'd say based on that it gets an appropriate amount of use.

Re: Took the 2k mile truck out today

There are obviously many differing opinions on how this truck should live out it's life but only Joe can decide that. What I do know for sure is that I am glad to be able to look at this thread every once in a while and take it in. It's simply in amazing condition and I'm happy Joe can share it with us. Thanks Joe!
