Well not much progress I have made this weekend.. I filled some holes in the frame and got one of my notches lined up and bolted, then ran into what could possibly be a problem when I went to do the other side.. Holding off til I can call Porter Built tomorrow and see what I am doing wrong.. here are a few pics

The good news is that you have not cut the frame if you do have a issue, do the step notches measure equal length. The notch on the drivers side looks wider in the area where the axle sits in between. Maybe a optical illusion, I hope so.

I’ve never installed one of these notches but I’d measure, measure, measure. And measure again.
You’ll get it.

Before you weld it all permanent like you might wanna stick all the rest of the kit together to make sure things jive together.

Ok guys I have a little update for you, I worked long into the night, and got the notches within an 1/8 of an inch of being parallel of each other measuring from the side to the back of the frame, but they where dead on square. This morning I pm'd Nate at Porter Built to see if he had any insight on my conundrum.. He assured me that an 1/8" was well within tolerance and that I could move forward with out worry. Thank you guys for all the suggestions, links and words of encouragement.. Also thanks to Nate for helping with everything its nice to have a company that stands behind and offers great support for there products!

Now as soon as I get done with this pesky thing called work, I can get back home and finish my notches..

Good to hear you are at ease now with the setup, it would have bother me a bit too until I got concrete confirmation that the measurements not to far off from what's acceptable. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your build, good luck.

Hey thanks Scott! This is my first major frame altering build so it is a little nerve wrecking. That whole measure twice cut once thing has never been more true.. I guess in this case it's more like measure twice and if you're still not sure call someone who has been there done that...

Hey guys here is a little update for everyone. Last couple of weeks have been basically a scavenger hunt for parts. Finally found a late model 14bff from a dually, got it and striped all the brackets off also bought and received my perches and power steering plate from Captainfab. Gotta say these are awesome, craftsmanship is spot on great! Anyway got everything in and started mock up of the old axle to get a degree to set my new axle too. Here are some pictures.

How will you attach your rear axle to the control arm? Isn't the 1 ton axle a bigger diameter? Will a bigger (diameter) U bolt fit in the control arm. Thanks for any info

I got the idea from another board member lostmy65 he has done a whole how on installing a 14bff and according to him and Captianfab it is tight on the u bolts but they will fit. I will definitely post more pic's as soon as my lowering blocks and u bolts come in and I get everything tacked in place.

not alot I have been putting in some long hours at work and this was my weekend to work. Hope to get back on it this coming week, and have some pics posted up of thet rearend install.

Ok sorry guys for the delay in updates as I mentioned I have been working mondo OT... Gotta support the hobby er... I mean family... any way got to mess with it a little today, after hours of measurements checking and re checking I got the 14bff tacked on to the perches. Wade buddy so far it looks like I may have to elongate the holes in the perches a little bit. I will let you know more tomorrow, right now I gotta stop and eat and get ready for work.

Does it look like if you elongate the perches will there still be enough room in the trailing arm for the wider U-bolts? Or will that be the next hurdle?! I appreciated all the info. I've got a 72 3/4 ton trailing arm frame that has 88 cross member under the front and the same rear end for the rear. They have it temporarily mocked up with bolts from the bottom and nuts on the captain fab perches, and I'd like u-bolts to be 100% confident in not loosing my rear end going down the road (lol).

LOL! Yeah that would not be good. My u bolt kit and lowering block are for a c20 and I'm off like a 1/16 I'm taking my rotary file set home from work and will let you know tomorrow... If not tonight. Hey on you project are you running the 88 engine frame brackets? Im curious if i can use them on my truck.
