For the some that does not understand the gusset's. Those are mandatory for any joint that can not be welded 360*
they are in my car everywere in the door bars at the windsheild etc..and its certified to 750

The lower sill bar needs to connect the bottom of the A-pillar bar and main hoop together. Being the main hoop does not go bellow the cab, it would be hard to run it under the cab. Also not sure the legality regarding distance from the diagnal door bar.

There does not have to have an X in the door, just needs to be a diagnal, but an X is more on the safe side. I am nimble enough to get in/out.



Thanks all for the compliments.

Most likely going to pull the motor on sunday, get the heads off and to their new owner. Then order the new ones with gaskets, put it all back together ASAP.

Come on 10.5x ET NA... I don't think it will happen first time out but sure would be nice.

Ok, instead of having an upper loop with the forward door bars welded in place he does it the opposite way. Was there some reason you chose not to run the forward door bars thru the dash and then down giving you more room? That and the hoop behind the drivers seat is much higher than the front one. With all those tie-in bars it looks sloppy to me especially that diagonal bar. Was that placed just to keep the hoops apart for welding?

Sorry if I ticked you off I'm just really picky about some things.

I don't follow your train of thought here exactly. If you have a picture of what you are talking about, it might make better sense. Most 8-12 point cage I see have
A main hoop like behind the seat
The A pillar bars that come off the top of it to the winshield and down to the floor
A winshield bar that seperates the top them
Sometimes a dash bar depending on how much floor was removed
And a diagnal bar from the drivers shoulder to their feet, bar going out the back

Actually there is. Ever been in a 60-63 cab with the wrap around windshield? The location in which the cage would have to go through the dash has very little meet to cut a hole through and pass a tube. It would have been a mess.

The hoop is that high to clear my big head and helmet. The front is lower than the rear, again for a reason. Joe tries to maximize space for getting in and out as well as hide the cage from the outside.

In order for the windshield bar to be up higher, the A-pillar bar would have had to dive sooner. In other words, the bend would be closer to the main hoop. Being that bar now dives straight down, he actually created more entry/exit space for me being we didn't have the ability to go through the dash.

The diagnal bar serves a function. God forbid the truck didn't stay shinny side up (oh wait, there is no shinny side with my truck) it will help the cage from compressing at the tops in a roll over. A diagnal bar adds a lot of strength. Heance why I opted to have Joe X the door way. Like others mentioned, the small diagnal gussets also serve a funtion!

It is obvious you have never built a NHRA certed cage, yet my chassis builder has been doing so since the late 80's. I'll will trust his "Mickey Moused" ways and know that I have a solid, safe, well built good looking cage.

Different ways to skin a cat.. I personally like the way mine is done vs the two hoop deal.

Tony`s a great guy, knows his stuff. He used to run a mid 70`s Monte when he lived in Long Island. His basement was sick, head porting stations and heads everywhere.

I got looking at your photos and noticed that in a few areas that you could use a 90* gusset tabs, The outer part of that cab is not extremely strong. Add a few of the gussets on the outer support rail , to the frame. I am sure you have it under control. was just a thought, not in any way telling you have to set up the cage.

Just a heads up after putting my nova end over end and having the cage save my life. My dad was a huge help in helping me add the little extras that add up in the end.

Plus I need you to add more weight to that flying brick so I can be some what close to the rear bumper down the strip.

I've been considering selling my current motor and picking up a 6.0 or a 6.2 and putting some L92 heads and a bigger cam and going this route. What application are those Kooks headers for? Those are some nice pipes! Also, does anyone make some mounts to bolt the LS engines in our trucks in the stock location?

Go the LS3 route hands down. From there a simple scat stroker kit and cam and you will have a very healthy engine that can take a huge amount of abuse. A screw super charger will provide a ton of power.. NOS is always fun as well but type of use would make that choice for you.

I already have plans for the next build
