Re: 1961 Indian

Getting pretty anxious to start installing parts. Boxes continue to pile up in the garage, but I still need to order the shocks before I can get this thing down where it belongs. I'm thinking I'll probably go with a set of QA-1's Thurs morning.

Replaced the old school B&M shifter tonight with a Lokar kit with a 23" shift handle for the Turbo 400. Filled in a couple of the holes from the old shifter and may run without a boot for a little while. I'm kind of liking how this looks; it goes with the theme for now..

And I think it's time to upgrade digital camera's. These Blackberry pics are crap.

Re: 1961 Indian

Thanks guys.

Picked up my new headers (Hooker, part # HOK-2466HKR from Summit) today from West Coast Specialty Coatings in Concord. I went with the ceramic coating in flat black.

Like the look of the LOKAR!!! How does it shift? I mean the feel, smooth light butter or hard shifting?

Looking to do the same in my 61 when I get the 350 in it...

Build is Looking good...can't wait till I get boxes like that building up for my build

I actually didn't adjust the shift points from the modulator, just switched out the shifter. At some point I'll look at getting it to shift a little harder, along with installing the kick down.

I really just wanted to clean up how this looked inside the cab. I wanted to go from a hot rod 1/4 mile look to more of a traditional, trucker style shift handle. The push button is pretty cool going from gear to gear though.

Re: 1961 Indian

I ended up going with a set of '73+ Blazer 4WD 15x6 steel wheels. MAAS Brothers in Livermore blasted the set and powdercoated them in gloss black for $50/ wheel. I'm running 235/75/15 American Classic 1.6" whitewalls with spider rings and bullet lugs and locks from Rally America in Fresno.

Can't wait to get this thing down a little!

Re: 1961 Indian

After waiting 2+ months for shocks from No Limit, I finally cancelled the order and called ECE. I literally had shocks the next day.

Had some time this last weekend to dump the rear. This is 4" but I'll be ordering 5" spings next week. It's just not quite low enough for what I'm after.

Looking good man. Now it's time to back off the front torsion bars and get it even'd out.

It's actually a '63 so I don't have to deal with any of that. I've got 2.5" drop spindles and 1" springs that need to be installed ASAP.

Re: 1961 Indian

Oh Yeah! looking good man. Did you have to do modifications to make that impala steering wheel fit?? I been looking at these at local swap meets for around 25 bucks and thinking about getting me one also. What kind of center cap are you going to use??

No, it bolted right up. I'll probably run an OEM SS center cap.

Re: 1961 Indian

Alright guys, made some progress on this beast. Dropped the rear 4" and it wasn't quite low enough, so I ordered 5" springs for the rear from the good people at ECE.

Last Sunday I installed the new 5" springs in the rear, 1" in the front, and 2.5" drop spindles. Converted the front from drum to disc with vented drilled rotors and booster. Just finished bleeding the lines tonight and will get some pics of the stance up tomorrow AM.

The bottom coil ring on both front springs was completely snapped off. Who knows how long this truck has been running on broken front coils. Looks like some cowboy jumped the snot out of this thing at one point.

Re: 1961 Indian

I'm really looking forward to seeing your truck with the new dropped spindles and front and rear springs. That is the exact setup I have on my truck but it is down to bare frame so I haven't seen the exact stance I will end up with. I've got a 66 LWB.

Looking good! Where did you get the discs throught? Are they 1 1/4 rotors! I just got a 13 inch rear disc brake setup and need to find a matching front rotor. Thanks keep it going!

ECE. I've stopped going through anyone else for these old trucks. Shipping is often next day in NorCal and Customer Service can't be beat.
