Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

It all takes me way to long. That's why I made my living as a mechanic. I always beat flat rate. With body work I couldn't. But when I see some of the so called professionals work, I do pretty good. But still takes me too long.

Alan, At this point are you just "spot wiping" trouble areas or are you going over the whole fender again? I do notice a high spot or two, do you just tap them down and wipe over that area?

Looks like to deleted to much of the quote, the image is the last one the Left Rear Fender...

I prefer bodywork over bending wrenches. I have more patience with bodywork.

With smaller areas I like to wipe the complete area, but with a panel this big It will be spot wiped. Just have to take time blocking so the surrounding areas aren't cut into. The highs will be lightly tapped down. Some of the ones you see are minor and will prime out.

Looks like you are on the right track now. You don't know how PO'd i get when I hear about shops ripping people off. Its hard enough to stay in business and then have companies doing shoddy work and thieves to boot. We have plenty of them in the Houston area to. I've heard this kind of stuff for years now. You generally get what you pay for however sometimes this kind of crap happens. That door looks like it was someones first attempt at welding and I would have fired the person that did that. That was not a body shop it went to.

Thats the problem I had and had for years. They told me my problem was that I would stop and stare and admire my work too long. You just have to learn to do it right and go on to the next step and keep going. I still have the problem but have gotten better at it You can't waste time.

Greed is a deadly sin. My reputation means more than I can say. If you treat people good they will definately remember. Especially in todays world.

Thanks for posting the pics. It really helps. The grill looks great. About to bring in the parts truck and get the cab off. If all goes well.

Your right, it looked really great!! It will be there again.

I did get the parts truck cab off the of the frame along with straightening up the shop. At least when you bring your cab I can sit it on the parts truck frame to mock everything up. I was too pooped to do anything else tonight.

Re: 198Plus build by Alan's Classic

At the LA Roadster Show Swap Meet I saw a 56 Chevy dash for only $60.00 I was tempted, but didn't buy it. Now that I'm thinking about it, I should have. I already have a billet gauge housing for after market gauges left over from my 56 Belair.
Check out the LA Roadster Show pictures. Lots of trucks were there.
