Intelligence can be aquired through experience...without ambition no experience can be aquired...Those born with intelligence and no ambition are those with wings and fear to use them...they fear failure...failure is part of the learning process...why have wings if you are to be a turtle... to 69FACE...as kennedy said the only thing to fear is fear it self...then what do I know just an old ridge runner...way to philophical this morning lol...The Damn truck has balls and beauty...a little Man a little women...it reminds Me of what drives Me...passion, the country,freedom....

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

Most of you guys are a quite a bit older and like the trucks because you were around them when you were younger and they are a awesome truck. Im 17 so I never really recognized them until I got into my teens. The reason I love them so much is just how much different they are then the trucks of today. They look way better. The thing that really caught my eye is just how a short bed single cab can look pretty small but when you really get close there bigger than crew cab trucks with a stock bed today. People actually took time to design a car to look good back then instead of worrying about saving a mile per gallon. They are just great trucks.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

Like a lot of guys here, I remember when these trucks were new. I took my driving test for my commercial license when I was 17 in a 67 Chevy truck.
My dad bought a 69 GMC while I was in high school. I'm still driving it. Like any true "classic" these trucks will never go out of style.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

I came to this country in 1980, had a neighbor who have an old 67 with wood flat bed on it. We used to cruise around on that thing lisen to Rock and Roll, smoking pot and getting the girls. I drove this truck couple of times and I was sold by the way they handle and drive. Completly diferent fell to it to any thing elses.
Back them I got a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix and we race all the time and do dougnuts in a four lanes to.
All the american classics car and trucks pre 1960 Ive seing before and grow up with it and this trucks just blow my mind. So I got couple so far, this one I will keep it

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

My dad bought one when I was 10 or 11, that was only 7 years ago. Now I have one too and we cruise around together. It's pretty cool, and sometimes I find myself just missing that turn home and wandering off into the countryside listening to the tunes of 1967 and 1968 and all of the better years the truck had seen.

When I look back at how messed up my truck was when I found her behind a used car lot in 2004, it reminds me of saving a life. That truck would've ended up crushed, or in the Pick N Pull junk yard down the road, but now she's my... ... ... my little hotrod. All the kids at school, they know the guy that drives the classic blue pickup. It's like a trademark.

I also like to think that'd I don't neglect. I respect all of the owners that "wipe their trucks with a diaper" and never drive in the rain or past evening. But this truck, it's my only ride as it is and I'm lookin' to create some good memories. I plan to ride this sucker all the way through college and maybe even forever.

Was Harry involved with the '66 Olds? I've always thought this was the guinney pig for '67 Chevy pickup or '67 GMC ( 4 headlights). Rounded fenders, shape of windshield, door vents and slanted hood.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

My first truck was a 64 with the 283, 4 speed and Detroit locker. I gave 700 bucks for it. That was the beginning of a friendship with Chevy trucks up to, and including today. I've had every generation of Chevy since then, and this is the truck I keep coming back to. Enduring style, workhorse tough, and when they do break, I can still fix it myself and go right back to work or whatever I was doing. It's not just your truck, it's one of your best friends for life

I wondered the same thing. The OP seemed to disappear almost immediately. Special-K was one of the posters I recognized. Why don't the rest of you guys give us an update on the trucks you have now.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

Yes, an older thread, but a timeless topic. I am sure there are many who are not aware of the circumstances of the design, The 60's was an interesting decade for many reasons, including the evolution of trucks. GM at this time was interested in a more car like appearance. I have never any mention the '66 Olds as the inspiration for this design era. I have heard of the Camaro design, but it did not exist in '66.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

I've had a "54 and and '85. Sold them both. My '70 is, for me, in the goldilocks zone. It's a real truck, as others have mentioned. Easy to work on. You can take it apart with a set of wrenches. The plastic it does have is mounted to the steel, not to other plastic junk. I just keep working on it and making it better. I dont think I'll ever sell this one.

Going to car shows and swap meets there seems to be more 67-72's around still running. Could be they sold more and were taken care of, passed down to family, etc. My '70 was a Maintenance truck for a large Oregon resort, one of two for sale. My wife bought the best of the two for $400.00. I was a little disappointed at first (can you imagine?), as the other one had a little more bling (chrome). Now, I am amazed she did that for me. My firefighting money got me all the refinements made later. Now I can look at her again with new eyes, having just unburied her from two feet of snow! One regret... I've painted over the Black Butte Ranch lettering...patina cover-up.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

My dad bought my truck 2 years before I was born. He saw it on the lot (new) and added it to the home loan. I have fond memories of the truck.

He drove it for 20 years and then I ended up with it. I drove it some in high school where I learned that the bench seat combined with a column shift manual was THE greatest date combination ever. I wish bench seats were options in all vehicles.....

Mine has mostly been garage parked since 1994 but I hope to change that as soon as I get off my rear and finish the new fuel lines.

I love the lines of these trucks and they aren't too expensive to buy or work on. I also have a strong hatred for plastic parts.

Simply put....These trucks look good ! The ease of maintaining them, repairing them, parts availability & small block V8 parts interchangeability helps too. Not too common here in the Northern part of the east coast makes them even more desirable.

Re: Why are our trucks so popular?

I fall into the my dad had one camp. And my uncle. That being said I dont practice brand loyalty and have restored other vehicles...
I mean my dad also had a plymouth valiant with a slant six that outlived the truck but I wouldn't want to restore one...
My dads was a 69k20panel and my uncles was a 69k20fleet. Both orange. I looked and looked and looked for a k20 panel. I even went back to the small norcal town we lived in to see if the truck was still there. Long story short this k20 popped up on craigslist. I bought it for my wife and I
