Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

well it might not be real corvette rim but it is a knock off and very similar with a few differences like bigger slots and his has 9 slots and the vette rim only has 8 slots and it also has an extra lip which is probably because its a different backspacing than a vette rim but does appear to have a corvette spinner (still might be a knock off as well) because of the corvette crossed flags on the center cap. Byrd's rims would look awesome polished and with the red pin stripe on the rim with a set of red pin stripe tires

Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

I believe the wheels are called speed racers or something like that. They are very similiar to the vettes and yes I agree with the both of you that they would llok good polished up. I especially like the 8's up front and 10's in the rear.
Would a mother's ball or similiar product polish them up like the vettes liquiddragon posted?

Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

The wheels look like 'Bassett' racing wheels which circle track guys use (& NASCAR as previuosly mentioned). They come in 15x8" & 15x10" widths & are 5x5 bolt pattern.

Very nice build-up thread BTW.

Yeah I LOVE THE DOLLY, haven't used it to tip and flip yet, but that time is fast approaching
I went with 6" hard rubber casters as most of the area aroung the shop is gravel except for inside the shop. I for them from Harbor freight for $16 a piece and they roll awesome on anything!!

Am I the only one that notices that the "Bassett" wheels are a steel wheel, while Byrd's are aluminum?

Well, if I am wrong, I'll admit it it, but this just doesn't look like a steel wheel to me. How about it Byrd, Steel or Aluminum?

Looks like a wheel that's been painted 'steel' grey or silver to me. Byrd.... let us know what you have there.

smbrouss70 You are correct, they are aluminum wheels, they are VERY LIGHT, about 12-15 lbs with the tire.

Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

Will somebody please figure out just what these wheels are? It's killing me! Vette's have 8 slots, these have 9. Bassett wheels have 8 and are steel, no aluminum listed on site. Is this a one off set of wheels? Have you checked the bolt pattern size yet? I'm puzzled....

Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

boog what do you mean by bolt pattern size? they are 5 on 5
I too would like to know, I go them off a truck I parted and the
PO didn't know what they were, he thought they were corvette
wheels as I did when I first bought the truck.

Re: My build up thread 67 small window short/fleet

Well the Vette's are 5x4 3/4, the trucks are 5x5. Do you suppose the hubs have been redrilled to make the wheels fit the truck? Naw, too many slots to be Vette wheels. I don't know what they are but I like 'em! Give a call around to find a wheel refinishing shop, one that repairs and refinishes alum wheels and see what they can do for them. With no obvious scrapes and gouges they should clean up real nice.

No Harm, No Foul SCOTI!

I just REALLY want to know what kind of wheels those are. It's driving me nuts.

Byrd are there ANY stampings or marks on the back of the wheels?

Awesome story and a great job you're doing. Stuff like this encourages us older guys to help kids who are interested in rebuilding and preserving "old iron". BTW, when you took the serpentine system fro the '89 'Burb, did you also take the water pump? When I did the serp on mine, I found that the pump runs in the opposite direction from the original.

Great job and thanks for sharing!
