Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
here's a few more pics of the aftermath. it really couldve been much worse. with the exception of the limb that hit the roof, and one that dented the left front corner of the hood, some of the other limbs came with inches and didnt leave a scratch. it looked kinda like a grotesque claw around the truck.
so I consider myself lucky because the doors seem to be fine. the passenger door is tight and I think its because the bottom of the windshield piller is puckered out and causing some pressure. I've contacted 3 shops so far and sent pics but nobodys come out to look at it yet. homeowners/auto insurance is still a big ZERO. my screwup was not getting the appraisal and adding the comp/collision as soon as I bought it. a lesson learned.

Ouch! Tough to look at without becoming emotional! I guess it's time to cut all tree's within a ten mile radius of any 67-72 chevy truck

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
Those pics really show how tough these trucks are. The one of the roof is amazing, popped the glass out, did it hit the dash?
Is your insurance not covering becuase you only have liabitity, or because they dont have an appraisal. I smashed up my truck years ago without an appraisal, but I did have full coverage, and they fixed my truck with no questions. Maybe I just got lucky. Darren

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
Sorry about your loss. I live in Reno and it's not that far away from you. I just bought a '70 c20, but I had a very limited budget, under $1000, and found about 10 67-72's in that price range here. I ended up picking mine up in susanville CA and on the way to it spotted about 3 more along the road. They are all over out here, and most of the "local" trucks have very little rust. I found mine in the local deals & wheels catalog, at that time there were 5 others under $1500, most were in "decent" shape.

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
bought if from a shop not too far from here in fremont. the owner ran a 6k tab up and couldnt come up with the cash to pay it off. the truck had been his dads and his dad died a couple of yrs back and the son and his brother were fighting over it. I met the mom who was about 75 and got some nice stories from her. kind of a sad story.

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
Hey Gary. From what I can tell by the pics I think a cab replacement may be the better fix. The cab may be bent in the floor and cab mount areas and windshield A pillar. Door alignment depends on a square cab. Nothing that can't be fixed. Just takes money.
Maybe you can rent a portapower to push that roof back up into close proximity enough to tape around the openings to help keep the water out. A bit of visqueen and tape should keep the weather out. ![]()

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
Just out of curioisity - what was the "exclusion" on the home owner's policy? Was it because YOU owned the vehicle? I would get out my policy and start reading through it. The shoulod have the exclusion for vehicles if they "burn in the garage" or somthing like that. This should be covered! I'm an auto damage appraiser for a division of Liberty Mutual. We just paid a claim like this - the only differance was that the vehicle the tree fell on was not owned by the same person who owned the property from which the tree fell.
Anyway. My suggestion would be to find another rust free cab. Even though it looks like it could be fixed, I have a feeling that it pulled the "A Pillars" in towards the center of the truck - which will give you great grief in door/fender/windshield alignment. I think swapping the cab would be the cheapest way to do it as well.

Re: Honey, the just tree fell on your new truck...
On the Insurance issue, you are always better off to insure something like that with a specialty insurer, they know the value of classic vehicles like we are dealing with. I have insured several vehicles over the years with a company called Hagerty (hagerty.com) and they have always been great on claims. I don't know how they would be on paying out the value of the vehicle I specified if it were stolen but they would handle something like this without a problem. I just insured my 68 LWB Step anf it ran $220.00 for the year. I had about 3 pages of info to fill out on the truck, placed a value on it (18K) and had to send them pictures of it and that was it.
