Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
So last weekend Sunday at about 10:00 AM I puled out of Corpus, Scooted up to New Braunfels to eat lunch with Critter and Jtrux, Had a great time meeting them.
Then I Drove up to Dallas, to pick up some parts, and then more in McKinney. By the time I got back at 10:00 Monday morning, I had driven 905 miles, and averaged 10.25 MPG towing the empty trailer, 9.5 on the way back. The truck ran like a clock for me, no problems to speak of. I am not going to let the cat out of the bag on what I picked up yet, but here is a little fun I had with autocad and photoshop. Stay Tuned, I am going to be running for more parts next weekend.

Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
And so it begins!
When it goes back together it will be a 4x4!!! This is what I went to Dallas for 2 weeks ago, it is a Dana 60 Dually front axle, and a narrow 14 bolt! The dana 60 has 4.56 gears, the 14 bolt has 4.10's not sure which I am going to keep yet, we will see. I am also toying with the idea of doing a air ride 4 link front and rear end... also it came with a rear sway bar, and I have a front sway bar already, so the truck is going to get those to keep it stable... When it all goes back togeather it should be a damn good truck. I am also toying with building a new frame... Mine has 900,000 or so miles on it, and it has had a torch taken to it a couple of times. It is just an idea at the moment...

Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
So the bad news is, my frame is bent, totally tweaked, the dually has just hauled one too many loads. So time to build a brand spankin new frame!
This is what I am going to roll with, it is a 2"x6" box tube frame, that is 1/4 of an inch thick, I am probably going to tig the whole thing as well. I think the end product will be far superior to the stock frame with 900K on it. As well I am upgrading to 4 link suspension utilizing a front and rear panhard, and airbags. The only thing I am not for sure on yet is what tire size I am going to run, it will either be a 33 or 35 inch, and depending on what tire I go with, I will either run a 4.10 or 4.56 gear. I am also trying to get my hands on a Cummins. So we will see. hopefully in about a month I am going to start getting the new frame welded. I will keep you all posted. I am also toying with the idea of trying to get my hands on a set of 10 lug axles with air brakes, but we will see on that...

Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
I had to take it apart to get the measurements, and if I really had to, I could reassemble what I have taken apart in about 4 hours. the truck needs so much work right now though, it isnt worth the time or money to fix what is wrong, it really just needs to be rebuilt how I am rebuilding it.

Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
With the results of tonights election I am stopping all work on my project, I am going to reassemble the truck and place it in storage. I feel as though we are headed for tough economic times in this country, and I feel as though I need to save as much money now while I can. Thank you all for the comments. - Nick

Socialism has never solved anything. As well there has never been a time when a problem has been solved by throwing money at it, especially other peoples money.

Re: The Boss Hoss, 72 C/30, 454, DUALLY!
I have something special in the works, totally changing direction on this thing yet again, I am going to start a new build thread in a few days, when I get something worth posting up. I will put a link here.
I have acquired a ton of parts for this thing, and I am just waiting to get all the pieces together to make a show. I think you all are going to love what you see when I roll it out. It is going to be radical and new, no longer will it be powered by a Cummins, that is going in my 85, but this truck will give a new meaning to heavy duty in a 72! Stay tuned.
