Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
I think the 454 and 350 mounts are the same part number, they were identical. I held them up next to each other before I swapped them. You'll have to put those pieces back in that the mounts mount to. Good Luck!

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
350 and 454 mounts are the same, there is nothing special to get a BBC in a 1/2T truck.

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
Pretty much anything gm big block and small block mounts are the same thing. The running hot problem you had is common on these big block trucks gm used a too small radiator most put a diesel one on or go aftermarket.

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
No, it's just that vid cam is very sensitive so it makes the engine sound louder than it really is. It's a Comp Cams timing set though.
If you go backwards in the thread you'll see another vid of the engine running where the "sewing machine" is a lot louder prior to the work done this weekend. That was the goal, to quiet the engine noise some and get it oiling better. Which we accomplished. Now, it's time to go break something!! schoolfire: someday soon!! Kenny

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
ken, i just read through this thread, all four pages worth, and i gotta say, your dedication and perseverance through the little bumps and small irritating stuff really is great! and the reward... WOW!!! that engine sounds mean and nasty just sitting there, i would love to hear a quick "fly-by" or "down-the-road" type of vid to hear that beauty changing gears and scaring the old ladies of your neighborhood!
very great write up on a great project, I only hope when the time comes that my truck ends up as nice as yours! shaun

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
Where did you find them in a 20"? I've only been able to find 17's, and did they bolt right up without and modifications to the hub or spacers?

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
also what drop setup do you have on your 87. I'm looking for about the same stance, but am having trouble figuring out if i shoud go with drop spindles or dropped tube control arms (DJM)?

Re: Prepping for a BBC conversion
I bought them from a board member, but you can order them from tirerack.com or summitracing.com but they are special orders so it takes a few weeks to get them.
The stance is static. Bags soon, but for now, it's got a flip in the rear with shock extenders, 2 1/2" drop spindles up front and 1 coil removed from the springs. Rubs a bit on fender wells but not that bad. Kenny
