Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

very cool thread!
thanks for the info
can someone tell me why these kits re-locate the axle to the rear?
is it so the drive shaft doesn't bind? seems like a small amount of movement.
is it necessary?
I don't really like the looks of the flip kits, i'm planning on doing my own flip and removing the factory leaf perches and mounting new ones on the bottom of the tubes. anyone gone this route? would i need to change pinion angle, or keep it stock? TIA

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

I think it keeps you from having to shorten the driveshaft,... and also keeps the wheel centered in the wheel opening.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

I copied this from the DJM websight. I didn't know this either until I read it on their site.

"If you could jack the rear end up to the point where it was level with the transmission the splines might completely disappear and the drive shaft would be forced into the transmission. This is not a good thing and why you need to move the axle back away from the transmission when you install a “flip kit”. "

Lucky you have good roads, you couldn't drive over here without a c-notch!!

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

454HO-Thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate your time going over to your storage and getting the pics.

Yep, my shock mounts are def different. Don't know why. I ordered a set of Nitro drop shocks last night, I may just have to go without the extenders and re-locate my top shock mount. Can't really do anything yet until I get my new rims (today hopefully). Once I get the c-notch, mini-tub cut I will be able to drop her back down on the ground and see where everything lines up.

Thank you to all that replied. You all have been very helpful.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

Why do youy need to re-locate the top shock mounts? I did not have to for my rear suspension drop. I have HD leafs, with overload removed, flip kit, 2" drop shackles, 12 bolt, Bell Tech drop shocks, AND Cal-Trac traction bars. Everything bolted in without a hitch.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

If I were you, I would just weld the DJM extenders over the existing mounts you have there and call it a day.

Also curious if you have another pic that shows the pumkin a little better. Looking at this pic...

... I'm not so sure that is a truck 12-bolt.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

Thanks for the help 454HO. I appreciate your time. Here is a better pic of the rear.

]

I had to take a break from drilling those c-notch holes, I am wore out. Two hours and I have 5 holes drilled.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

Man go to Sears and buy the Titanium coated uni-bit (some call them step bits) get the small one that go's up to 1/2". I bought one to do the Dropmember on the back of my truck....32 half inch holes!!! I cant believe how great they work, they go through the frame like hot butter!! $24.00 bucks but way worth it.

I might just do that. I basically have to drill each hole 4 times. Start with small bit and work my way up. I think I have about 25 holes total.

Okay, that is definately a truck 12-bolt. Not sure why it has those goofy shock mounts.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

Well, I almost got the c-notch's installed, but ran into a problem with the passenger side shock. The c-notch plate will not allow the shock to bolt up clean. Not sure if re-locating the shocks will work correct this or not. Too tired to work anymore on it tonight. Still waiting on my rims from Centerline, been 6 weeks now and they still have not arrived. Can't do the mini-tub until they get here. I did get all that I wanted to do today completed.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

I got a different axel from a pull-a-part place and everything bolts up fine now. Never did figure out why my axel was different. I gave up on it and just put a different one in. Still waiting on rims rom Centerline, I am also going to throw some 4:10's in there. Thanks for asking.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

How is the ride? Do you bottom out ever? Do you ever put stuff in the bed and bottom out? I am debating about a 2.5/4 drop but I like this look better.

Re: My DJM flip kit install pics

I've hauled 1300lbs of wood flooring in mine, never bottomed out the suspension. I did scrape my 3" exhaust pipes a couple times though....

Yes, it can be installed without a C-notch, but you will need to remove the bump stops. And yes you use the original hanger/shackles.
