Thought I'd let everybody know what's been going on up here, pretty much everything EXCEPT blazer building.

The biggest item (time and money sucker-upper) is our current house renovation:
After 15 years in this house it was time to do the kitchen over 'again'.
*Knocking out two walls, 1 interior and 1 exterior and adding 2 exterior walls and 1 more interior wall.
*Enclosing a porch and changing the entrance to the house to provide for a mud room.

This made for huge amounts of rip-n-tear, along with the necessity for a 14ft steel 'I' beam to create the clear span needed for the new space.

PART DUEX:
All at the same time, I'm having a 25'x8' retaining wall built/poured to repair/replace a previous redneck 2x2x4 concrete block wall installation that had no prevision for drainage and as a result undermined my foundation.

The good part though is that along with the retaining wall they'll also be pouring a parallel 25' footer wall.
Yeah, for the new garage!!

So that's the whole story behind the zero blazer progress...stay tuned.

The contractor threw me a price of $25K yesterday and said it would take him 4 weeks.

Now remember, I've got the concrete pad already there and the retaining wall will act as one of the walls and I'm paying for the roof separately.

Walked straight into my office and called another contractor...

Wow...that does seem quite pricey!

And how in the world could it take him 4 weeks to build a garage.

EXACTLY!!

Myself and one other guy could do it in 1 month working only on the weekends.
Might just be the way it happens at this point anyway...freakin' contractors.

I was recently quoted 6500.00 for a insulated 24x30 with a 10' ceiling, 8x9 insulated roll up door, steel entry door, 30x14 lean to on one side, built. In my neck of the woods thats cheap.... Another place quoted me 6000 for just the materials and that didn't include the roll up door. But I'm going to wait till next year and try to swing a 30x40 with a lean to. You'll probably go through 5-10 contractors before you find one thats not tryin' to rip you off.

$6500.00 is a bargain! But I would have to see exactly how they were planning on building it for that much. Almost seems too good to be true.

Whoa, I'd say it's a bargain, cool for you Big J.

I'd be more than happy paying 10K but over twice that is crazy IMO.

I wish we all lived closer too, for all the right reason's but right now a good old fashioned barn raising would be awesome.

I need one as well... maybe $25K from scratch and more than a "pole barn" seems fair...but that does seem high for just framing. Probably trying to make up for a poor construction season and not worry about jobs this winter...

In all fairness, I know this guy and have worked with him as a contractor for several years.

The price he threw out is a 'ball park' for the finished product and he did say that if it cost less, he'd certainly charge less.

Basically saying he's a good guy but the price did initially shocked the hella outta me.

Can you imagine if we all lived on the same street, alot of beer drinking and not alot of rebuilding

The blazer build that got sidetracked for more manspace, maybe you'll have enuff room to get the engine out of the basement

We need pics or it is not a legit reason to stop the build lol

Jim, there's time for both haven't ya heard?

Yes, a lot of basement 'stuff' will find its way into the garage.

Here's some "proof" pics.
The one of the kitchen shows the temp. wall and to it's left is where the new steel beam will go.

Other two show the future garage space.
Garage will cover from the dirt bank to about 3ft left of the concrete pad.
Dirt bank on the right is where the retaining wall will be obviously.
Garage will have a 9 or 10ft ceiling and the peak will be as high as the gable end peak you can see in the pics.

Last pic is of the new kitchen parts to be installed.

Very cool! I dig the steel roof. Not many of those in this neck of the woods. Obviously your snowfall out there would make it manditory.

Couldn't you get a pre fab steel building for the $6-10K range? Maybe not up to code and or HOA to use steel? Insulated they are as good/better than a wood frame? Sorry the Blazer build turned into a home remoldel, but with the new garage you can work on the Blazer once the snow flies, all though I am not too familiar with this thing they call snow, I hear it is cold?!
