Updated Turbo pics with the flipped manifolds please! I don't have much experience with tuning turbos on gas engines, but it sounds like a fun time! What about starting with some flipped block hugger headers? Are you tying both sides of the exhaust together, with a Y pipe underneath, or just running off the pass. side? Nice work, beautiful welds! |

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
Hey, just curious if the main and rod clearance issues come from the machine shop you used or is that part of the rotating assy stock? Probably a dumb question seeing how stout your frame and rear is. I assume you built the engine like a brick crap house. Anyway, I just wonder if a stock engine has too tightly clearanced bearings? Keep up the build

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
No, not running. Another motor at the same HP levels spun a bearing, and investigation led us to the culprit. Pulled my motor just to check so I could sleep well, and well...it wasn't as we asked for & was too tight. Just got lucky, but my buddy wasn't so lucky. His failure saved 2 motors that were moments away from self destructing.
Both. Stock clearance is too tight for my HP goal, and I specifically asked for looser tolerances to compensate for it. Yes, it is a forged motor. 1,000 ish is the current HP goal.

Well, no motor news yet, so I finished my gauge cluster. I am by no means trying to make it look like a billion dollars, but I think it turned out OK for my first try.

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
How about an update? LOL
Motor is back & in. Plumbed cold side of turbo & intercooler. 5" downpipe is finished. Since these pics, it has all been finish welded. Next week hope to finish all oil/trans/turbo oil feed & drain lines. Maybe the stainless headers too.

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
Thanks everyone. Turbo is a 91mm Garrett.
No planned boost level, just whatever it will take. Probably 15+ with the right fuel.

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
Wow how time flies when you have kids & crazy work schedule. I thought I would update with the current news....IT RUNS!!! Last night was the 3rd heat cycle on the new motor. Mucho props to DBRODS shop for helping me with getting this build closer.

Re: '68 C10 Short-Step 6.0 + TT swap
October 15th is a meet I am trying to make. Not much time to get the kinks worked out between now & then.
Thanks for the kind words everyone, it has been a long process.
