Re: My long term 57 project
Your steering wheel doesn't hit your speedo does it? I know mine was close. I never really thought about it till someone said somthing. Looking good.

Re: My long term 57 project
That dash is way cooler than the 60 truck dashes. Nice work, I'm getting some ideas for a project on down the line.

Man, you do nice work. I love those 55-57s. I've got a '67 and a '66. Time to start working my back towards those fifties rigs!

Re: My long term 57 project
Thanks guys for all the compliments! Hope to get some work done today. I do have another column that I'll use to get the wheel away from the dash!

Re: My long term 57 project
Made some progress today! I got a dash vent off ebay from a 64 Caddy and got it installed today. It looks like it was made for it! In the pictures it looks off center, but it's actually the ash tray that I reinstalled. It's only off an 1/8 in or less. May have to cut the ash tray back out and move it. But with the dash bolted in, sitting on the seat and looking at it, it's not as noticeable. But I know it's there so I may have to move it, if you know what I mean!!

Re: My long term 57 project
Making progress! The dash is ready for the final install. Have a look at what I've done on the back side. My painter made a suggestion that I paint it white so that it's much brighter and easier to see when your working behind it. I also welded on two tabs on each end to mount some under dash lights. The single leg on each end is there so I can bolt it the the same mounts that the oringanl dash was secured to! The Red paint was applied from a spray can just to cover the back edge that I'm not sure will be accessable once it's in.
Enjoy the pics and all comments are appreciated!!

Thats what I did, firewall too. Lights are a good idea, I'm glad I got the 21 circuit wiring kit. Nice progress.

Awesome build thread Chuck Driver! Your step-by-step posts give us inspiration to jump in and start cutting.
I have wanted to swap my dash, something older, with more character. Really makes a statement... yours looks phenomenal! |

I really dig the lights under the dash. I'm gonna have to do that also. Keep it coming.
