Thanks! Yeah - I got lucky, the only bugs in the spar varnish are on the underside.

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
I can't wait to actually start piecing the bed together. That said, trying to get those pre-painted pieces together without scratching them is going to be nerve racking...

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
It's time for all that prep work to result in some progress. I got the bedsides back and my buddy Matt stopped by to help me try to get it all together without scratching anything.
(Don't mind the cigar smoke in the second pic).

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
incredible ! Love that black !
My own bedsides look a little rought, too much farm-duty I guess. There's angle-iron welded onto the tops of both sides. New ones are expesive too... |

These are the days you live for - when all those new and refinished parts go together.

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
OK - back in the saddle. There's nothing like a possible move in your future to get you motivated to get some parts on the truck!
If you live on the east coast, there's a place called Custom Bandag (who chose that name?!?) that powder coats wheels. $27.00 each! I didn't believe it when a friend told me, but it's for real. They primarily do large truck stuff, but they were willing to do mine too. They truck to a central location in NJ and do it. I tried grey but didn't like it (that's gonna be the spare) and went with black instead. It ain't custom quality, but it's not half bad either. I stripped the front fenders today. No rust to speak of and there was only one coat of paint so they were pretty easy.

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
OK - here's a piece of hard-won experience: don't move in the middle of restoration project!
Most of my truck is in Maine now, but the cab is still in CT along with the front fenders. I'm renting a place and building a house, along with starting a new job. I was lucky enough to have my brother and my buddy Frank come over last Fall and do the last of the stripping on the cab. Then we dropped it at Rick's.

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
Then there was the mad dash to put the tailgate, fenders, and steps on the bed. I did not want to try to move those gloss black parts separately and not scratch them. Mission accomplished, along with tightening down all the bed bolts.

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
Then it was time to drag it north. At least the black truck was easier than the white truck (on new year's day).

Re: 67 C20 Long Step: "Slow Silver"
Don't ever, ever, EVER move in the middle of a project.
The chassis/bed is jammed in the garage of the rental I'm in. The fenders and doors are painted and sitting in CT. The cab is in primer in the same place. I have to figure out how to get them up here without scratching the paint. I'm waiting until the sand is off the roads, which may be a while this year. Here's the garage where the truck will end up. It's looked like this for a while as we wait for the weather to break and building to resume:
