Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Hey Captain,
I have the 62 4wd suburban with the 350 and original 4 on the floor. I am looking to get my drum brakes to work well enough that I can pull an Airstream sometime in the future. I was told by classic performance that this is the booster setup I will need especially since I have the dual reservoir for the hydraulic clutch.
http://www.classicperform.com/Store2.../MT6062BBD.htm
Can you confirm? And if that is what I am looking for is this the adaptor kit that I need to get from you?
Thanks,
AJ

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

That is what CPP came up with to compete with the conversion I make that I am selling in this thread.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Mine is a direct bolt up to the firewall using existing holes, I do not think theirs is. Typically with CPP's power brake booster conversions, you have to drill the mounting holes in your firewall.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

hi everyone

have used the captians brackets for my 62 GMC with fliud clutch

and am using a 1987 S10 booster

can anyone tell me if a round brake master cylinder unit from 66 chevy truck will fit on my booster please

it would look a little more original than the crappy S10 and I have no idea how to make the dual set up on the S10 unit work on my one line brake system

comments most welcome thanks

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

To use your original '66 master cylinder, you will have to change the intermediate pushrod to the long one.

I would recommend upgrading to a dual reservior master cylinder. There is a write up in the '60-'66 FAQ index on how to do it. Then all you will need is a master cylinder for a '70 Buick Estate wagon, which will work with the short intermediate pushrod. Of course this is assuming you still have 4 wheel drum brakes. If you have discs up front, you really should not use the original master cylinder, and you will need a master cylinder and prop valve for a disc/drum braking system.

You do not have to use the S10 master cylinder with the S10 booster. There are many other master cylinders that will work.

Here is a list of the confirmed compatable boosters.

Of course don't forget about the hydroboost.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

My application is a 60 gmc w/hydraulic clutch, drum/drum. Christmas is near so I'm making a list and checking it twice.

I like your "option 2" but saw some changes in subsequent posts. Just checking the price and product: they remain as you mentioned them in post 43 (199.50 + 15.00 shipping 7.50 powder coat option) and 44 (new linkage)?

<newbie section>
Many places say no proportioning valve required for drum/drum applications, but one would be required because of the new dual diaphragm master cylinder, correct? And no doubt I should replumb all my lines as part of this upgrade?

Generally the improvement gained by this change to my stock truck is power assisted braking and an independent three-line setup (front brakes, rear brakes, clutch)?

To answer my own question: No, a proportioning valve is not required for a drum/drum application with dual diaphlegm master cylinder. This thread helped clue me in:

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

You are close on the price. The bracket with the Wilwood clutch master and linkage is $199.50, the shipping is $15.76, and the satin black powder coating is $7.50, for a total of $222.76. I will need to know what clutch master cylinder you are using, so that I can supply you with the correct size clutch master cylinder.

You are correct that you do not need a proportioning valve for a drum/drum brake system. When converting to a dual reservior master cylinder, you do have to replumb at least the front brake lines. You can reuse the line that runs on the backside of the crossmember, for the rear circuit, by using a couple of inverted flare plugs as needed in the tee's.

If you will be keeping the original clutch slave cylinder, you should be able to keep the original line from the slave up to and including the hose at the firewall. Then just run a new line from the new clutch master, down to the hose on the firewall. Of course this is only if the original line and hose are in good useable condition.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Okay Captainfab, I had talked to you earlier about my 63 C10 NV3500 conversion. So I am ready to get this underway. You show the 60-62 C10 with the vacuum booster and clutch mc bracket along with the Wilwood MC and all needed hardware for 199$ Will this be the same price for the 63 C10? Let me know a price and how you want paid.

Thanks again for your R&D

Also I would like to add power steering. Could you give me a package deal with the power steering mounting plate as well? Thanks again

Do you have any plans on making a kit that will fit a 67?
