This set of pics is one of my least favorite things to do... taping and doing the edges. I've tried the fancy tools and the blade thingys you hold up, and I make a mess every time. This is my best way of getting it done

I still like this more than painting ceilings though...

Check out pic #3. I drew something dirty on the wall with paint, I covered it up for the pics. My wife didn't find it funny, but I thought it was funny...

Looks good. The covering on the cabinets was thermofoil...there was a bad batch for several years that wasn't noticed until it had been in homes for a while. The problem was it yellowed. Looks a lot better painted up.

The finished product! It's the same color as the living room. The hallways and laundry room will also be this color. We went crazy upstairs with the colors, but wanted to keep the downstairs fairly neutral and universaly appealing in case we ever have to sell Something drastic would have to happen though, we both really love this place. Everytime we visit a friend (they all live in subdivisions) one of the first things my wife says is "holy crap, did you see how close the neighbors houses are" or something to that effect.

If you noticed, I pulled the trim around the door. This door as previously mentioned is getting replaced, but not right now. However, when removing the base boards, no matter how careful I was, and even though I pre cut it, the caulking used around the edges still somehow managed to damage the wall and I didn't want that to happen with new paint, so I removed the trim ahead of time

In the final pic, it's just the mantle leaning against the wall. I'm still on the fence about refinishing it, or just painting it all white...

I also really hate how some of my pics turn out. These colors look really great in person, but my camera can't seem to pick that up. The color looks like poo in the last pic.

This house was built in 99, does that fall within that timeline?

Yeah, I really like how they came out. I'm going to hate taping off and putting plastic around my cabinets and counter tops. I make too much of a mess to be trusted!

Everthing has been cleaned up, but the floor needs some more cleaning and paint removal, oops.... my bad... At least it comes off easy.

The blinds are back up too. It looks really nice. I'll probably update with more pics next week....

I've been getting more stuff done...

1. The last two lazy susan trays are drying in my truck bed.

2. It was absolutely beautiful this weekend (mid 70's and sunny) and you never know when it will be that nice again, so I got the door faces ready to be sprayed and I sprayed them. They came out pretty nice if you ask me.

3. Just a shot of the rest of them. Between the door and drawer faces, I had to paint 15 things.

!!!WE HAVE A KITCHEN AGAIN!!!

1. Drawer faces installed and aligned.

2. I really took my time and tried to align everything straight and even. I had to waller out a couple of drawer holes a little bit to get the alignment I wanted. The wild cards were the lazy susan doors. They had a lot of adjustment, but not enough to get them the way I wanted them, but really close enough for me to be happy with them.

3, 4, & 5. Panoramic shots around the kitchen. You can see I still need to install the bottom trim board, the old ones were warped so I tossed them, I have a new stainless steel hood for above the stove, and I should be painting the kitchen walls by Thursday. Lots of taping to do...

We also got the fireplace cleaned up (it's still missing the mantle, and will be for some time, which is why I painted so close to the stone, so it kinda looks "OK: for now). Still working on getting the floors cleaned back up. Even with plastic, I still managed to get paint spatter on the floor somehow, but between the wall and ceilings being primed, the ceiling getting painted, and the walls being painted, for the little I did get on the floor, I'm amazed there wasn't more.

Ya didnt paint that mantle did ya? Good work on your casa, I just finished up a bathroom remodel for a friend, I cant wait to own a home again, 4 years to retirement from the AF for me, I live in Military Family Housing and dont get to do much renovating....

1 & 2. I put plastic and tape around/over everything. I'm really bad at getting paint on stuff. It washes off, but still a pain, this took a long time, but in the end made things move along quicker and easier.

3, 4, & 5. Color going on... it looked OK drying, but it looked like crap when dry.

1. This was completely dry. I think it looked like a shiny wet ass. My wife and I both hated it. It was supposed to be satin, which is supposed to have a low gloss for kitchens... but this was super shiney, especially with our lighting, so it HAD to go!

2, 3, 4, & 5. New paint. Same color, but I went with Matte this time. I almost got eggshell, but I was afraid of having too much "shine" again. We're both really happy with the finish. Love it!

Here's the 95% finished product. Obviously, I still need to paint the backside of the cabinets/bar, install the bottom board on the cabinets, and again, the baseboards will be missing for quite some time...

A little work and clean up to the dining room. If you look back, this room had a fugly green wall paper on the bottom half.

1. Proof my wife actually helps The outer layer of the wallpaper peeled off really easy, then using a spray bottle, we wet the layer underneath, used a plastic scraper and it came off super easy.

2. I'm not sure if it looked better before or after? Anyway, this room will eventuelly be some sort of red on top with white on the bottom.

3. Cleaned up, but it's still being used for storage.

Lovin the matte kitchen color . Might consider some accent lighting for the tops of the cabins . my wife used rope lights for ours .

Thanks everyone! Been gone for a few days, so we finally used the kitchen a couple of times, it feels so great. I'm really proud of it.

I think the Laundry room is next to get knocked out. It needs the most work of any room anyway, but because of it's location I can easily isolate it from the rest of the house so no dust gets on everything, considering we just decorated for Christmas, I don't want to clean all of that stuff The dining room is much "too open" to mess with for now.

For dust control, I use 3rd Hand poles and plastic.
Have you ever heard of Zipwalls? When I became self-employed, one of the first things I did was purchase dust control items. The 3rd Hand poles re half the price of Zipwall brand, and having used both, I like the 3rd Hand brand better. Easy to install and using Zipwall brand door zippers (they are self adhesive and install on a taut section of 4mil plastic), you can have easy access to the room.

The thickness of plastic you use depends on the application and length of time it's up. Use of .5mil painters plastic(like the video) is fine for short term. I use 4mil for use with the zipper door on longer term jobs.

Sub, that zipperwall thing is neat, but a little overkill for me, I'll only need it for a couple days and I'll probably never use it again. The dining room is actually in pretty nice shape, and I should be able to get away with just hand sanding, that should really keep the dust down.

Now THAT is cool! That I might have to check into...

I did some piddly stuff recently. I noticed that my inlaws had door blinds exactly like mine, but they looked 100X better because they were "boxed" in. Lowe's goofed up my order (2 blinds were wider than what was on the order sheet so they wouldn't fit in the window hole) and when I brought in the blinds I forgot the tops, but they said don't worry about bringing them in, so I kept them. I'm glad I did because it left me with extra material to do what I wanted.

I tried out my new miter box saw today. I got to use the 45 degree cut feature and I "boxed in" my blinds. Only took an hour or so, and made a big improvement. It was just some 45 degree cuts, angle brackets, and screws. Real simple, but big impact.

I also spent a little $ on trim.

It used to be 3.25" trim, but I think the 4.25" looks more upscale, and it's not that much more expensive.

Before, the back of the cabinets just had the 1/4 round on the bottom, but I wanted to run the trim around it too. I'll also put the 1/4 round on as well, just don't have it yet. I also added a corner trim piece. I'll sand it all down and paint it soon.

I got some good practice in with the saw. Lots of cuts, no $ mistakes, I cut everything a little long the first couple cuts on purpose to figure out how "accurate" the saw's laser line was.

The 2nd pic shows my fancy end cut, I wanted to "end" the trim around the cabinets, now the 1/4 round can got around the whole thing front back and sides seemlessly.
