Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
Those pics I promised will come when the weather gets warmer. I know...it's florida. But the news keeps talking about possible snow friday and I'm from florida, been here for all but 5 years of my life, and anything below 40 is cold to me.

Haha me too, that's why they aren't already ordered lol.
Wow. It hasn't been that cold but they're talking about snow here tonight/tomorrow. I'm definitely ready for summer, err maybe just warmer weather, Florida summers are brutal. |

Ah, how bright are they from the drivers seat. How much did it set you back?

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
They're awesome from the driver's seat. Set me back right at $100 after shipping.
ddmtuning.com is where to get 'em on the cheap. Lifetime warranty HID's for $30 plus shipping, add another $20 for hi/low bulbs. I still need to aim them a little better, but it was so nice driving home from class tonight. |

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
Thanks a lot man. I plan on lowering it about 2 inches all around (I think, I love the height it's at when I'm driving it, but I plan on going with a little bit lower profile tire next time I get new tires and I think it might need the fender well gaps closed in a little), it's at stock height now.
I've got a weird metal on metal rattling sound almost like valve rattle, but not loud enough or consistent enough to be valve rattle. Only does it under a load from 1500 rpm's to 2000 rpm's. It's driving me crazy and I can't for the life of me figure out what the sound is. I read something somewhere about someone having a similar rattle and it ended up being something loose in the muffler, I climbed under it today and knocked on the mufflers, didn't hear anything loose but the drivers side one (side where the noise is coming from) did have a different sound to it than the passenger side one. I'm thinking about going and buying a pair of thrush mufflers and throwing them on to see if it stops. Any ideas? |

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
It might be detonation but its really hard to tell without listing to it, usually advancing your timing or using a higher grade gas will fix this. Detonation sounds like a "pinging" when accelerating but its just a guess, might just be something rattling around under there. The truck looks great by the way!

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
I thought so too, but I've checked and rechecked the timing, and it's dead on what it's always been, and this noise just started showing up in the past month. And it doesn't go away with higher grade gas and/or octane booster. I'm to the point now where if a $60 pair of mufflers will fix my problem then I'm thrilled. Only thing left to try that I can think of is check the torque converter bolts and have someone sit in it and put it in gear, hold the breaks and run it up to 1500-2000 rpm's and let me watch under the hood.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
To me it sounds like it could be a loose baffle inside the muffler.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
Thanks, thinking about taking a trip to the auto parts store tomorrow and I'm hoping they have 2 offset/offset 2.5" thrush chambered mufflers and the clamps I need. Good thing there's 2 advance autos around here, 2 o'reilly's, an autozone, napa, and carquest all within a short driving distance lol.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
Your truck looks good as always. Now you just need to find some diamond plate for the bed rails.

Re: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic LWB build
Haha thanks man, I've thought about diamond plate bedrails, but I almost like the smooth painted look better. But there are some imperfections that didn't get fixed @ paint time and they bother me, but I still plan on a tonneau cover that has the tracks that go over the bed rails, so idk yet. I gotta get something to cover the top of the tailgate, huge dent in the top.
