Re: rust removal by electrolysis

Works for me! 24 or so hours, 12V@2A. See for yourself. Pics are a bit soft due to lens frosted(cool to warm environment)but you get the idea. I took my dollar store wire brush to the bracket to clean a little of the black by-product off after rinsing in cool water, the whole process is a breeze.

Re: rust removal by electrolysis

There`s another process that I used several times when not in a hurry for a particular part, plastic bucket 2 parts water one part molasses, takes about a week, when done rinse off, does not rerust over again either, contents can be dumped in drain or lawn, ( not responsible for ants ) engine parts that will be used internally or drive train parts internally that are rusted, used or new brake fluid, dump contents correctly, about two days.

You will need to use an old school type charger. The least complicated the better. Be sure to keep your connections above water, dry and clean, metal to metal.

The modern electronic chargers that check alternator function and provide a bunch of other data will not work as they are designed to recognize this type action as a fault. As a safety precaution , they show a fault code & do not deliver the voltage.

Re: rust removal by electrolysis

Just a heads up on the power supply. A battery charger is convenient(I lack one though) but I used a 12V switching power adapter from some computer peripheral to get my desired results. I have since upgraded to a Duracell 16V@4A NiCad charger/adapter, I can see improvement in the chemical reaction(bubbles and gas generation)It is permissible to immerse the negative connection-keep to positive connection dry.

If you are interested in the 12V-2A adapter, just PM me and pay the ride via 1st Class Mail. I can include some washing soda to get you up and running, just add water.
