Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
you might want to see how that new motor mounts up before you order your headers... since your truck is a 4x4? Or at least verify how it looks with the same motor mounts on another square 4x4.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I now have MSD box, motor mounts, throttle barcket, and flywheel should be here in morning. It is getting dangerously close to "go" time. Only few more things to get and will be ready to tear down engine to put cam in. Will take pictures of stuff in morning.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Intake manifold and figure out the exhaust crap. It get it in. But if all stays the same at work i will be putting cam in. Gm HOT CAM is what i have planed so far. Also need all the small crap like hoses and MAP sensor. What map sensor are you going to use with yours?

Not sure with this intake...but the MSD does have a input for it. You're getting the Performer intake aren't you?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Pretty sure i getting single plain. What ever one that is. Looks ten times better. Seems to have faily good low end still. Should be around 400 ft lbs of tq at 2200. The instructions do not say what one you need. I guess i will have to call them next week to see what one they say to use.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
you've got a lot of weight with that sub though...and a dual plane makes much better torque then a single plane. And for what you'd gain up top with the single plane...I don't think up top its worth what you'd loose down low...and the dual plane wouldn't loose as much up top as the single plane does down low. Lets face it....you're not going to be turning that motor near 7k rpm all the time, if at all...but you will be running from idle to 4500rpm...most of the time. That LQ4 doesn't really need to turn more then 6500 or so. I don't plan on twisting my LY6 more then 6800.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I know im not going to go 7k all the time. I have just never seen any dyno runs with duel plain manifolds yet. Wish i had some to compair. It has a 18-2000 stall converter so will get up in rpm pretty fast. I really dont want to put the duel plain on if it will fall on its face at like 4000. Am not set one way or the other yet. Looked like the single plain followed the efi manifold almost perfictly. Would like to see motor with both manifolds dyno with no other mods.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Well, the Victor's operating range is:
VICTOR JR. LS1 CARBURETED OR COMPETITION EFI FOR GM GEN III (3500-7500 rpm) and the Performer RPM is: offering maximum power and a broad torque curve from 1500 to 6500 rpm. ...this is why I have waited for the LSX dual plane. How many rpm below the rated range would I be with a SP? 2000? Unless you are going for all out race mode...you're better off with the dual plane. Specs are the same for the LSX DP intake, so max rpm would only be 300rpm over its "rated" range.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I do see you point. The duel plain is just so horible looking. Would like to see dyno still. So if the single plain has about 400 tq at 2200 what would you guess the duel plain would gain there? I plan to set rev limiter at 5800-6000. Think 5800 is factory. I will have better springs in it of course. Think that is a pretty safe rpm. problay wont see that often. Dosent the govener in trans mission set shift point any way unless you are in manual shift mode (moving lever manualy).

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Yes the trans will shift way earlier then redline w/o modification. Your LQ4 has a 5800 redline and a 6000rpm fuel cutoff. I'd guess you'd be OK to up the cutoff to 6200 or so and when racing shift 1-2 at 6000 and 2-3 at 5800. I ran my LQ4 in my '01 Sierra C3 up to 6000 (after tune) quite a bit since the 4L60HD has such a rpm drop for the 1-2 shift.
My guess is that you might loose 3-5% power in the upper range with a dual plane vs single....but will gain 7-10% in the lower to mid range....well worth the swap. Jim? Your thoughts?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I do remember in school i built a 400 hp sbc (at wheels) and teacher told us that the duel plane made about 25 or so more horses. We could choose single or duel plain. Every one chose the RACING single plain of chorse. Only one picked the duel and the made the most power. They also had the worst upgrades. We did heads and cam swap. Dont remember what cam but used prety stock vortec heads. I guess i will try the duel plain. I also found out my trans has corvette govener in it. Not sure what diff it makes but i think it shifts higer.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I plan on adding a floor shifter (and a tilt wheel)...so I can shift manually (w/o miss-shifting and putting it in N ) when I take it to the track. Problem is that $500 needs to go towards my cam and stuff.

Cam, lifter, spring kit i am getting is 550 i think. Plus gaskets. So dang pricy. I guess it should be worth it. I am going to get all the swap parts befor i get the cam stuff. So if any thing goes south i can have it in.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Thats cool. We never used drop spinles when we dumped wifes 68. Got 6 inch drop coils and cut 2 coils off. Still road ok and tires wore great. Could not rotate due to size and had them on for 3 year and never got any kind of funny ware pattern. Tiny bit of fethering twards the end. Broke off one of the u bolt deals that holds lower control arm on. Did not re align after replace ment.

The duel plane. Says makes carb flow up to 110 cfm more. I was thinking that will help make up the difference in my small carb.
