Now you have to get back to work. You've made a lot of progress, but still have a long row to hoe.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Here's some pics of the cab I picked up, all and all in decent shape, perfect for what I'm gonna do with it The only bad spot is the smashed driver's corner of the drip rail, no big deal I'll take this section from one of the other three cabs.
Plasma'd And installed and beginnings of the welding process, don't mind the crooked bed, one side is on it's frame mount and the other isn't. Had to slide it back to weld the back of the cab. A little mud and we'll be good to go, but no mud until everything is welded in and soda blasted.

The thing under the dash is an old school aftermarket heater. Really cool looking, definitely old school.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Let the fun begin on grafting the Dodge firewall into a 57 cab. This should be fun. Before I start hacking on the good 57 cab I decided to take the door pillar sections out of my wasted aqua cab. Using these for mock up and measuring to modify the Dodge firewall.
Notice the gap between the Dodge firewall and the outer cowl panel? Don't worry, so did I, wait, how can you miss it? I'm thinking I will make a custom set of outer cowl panels that will follow the contour of the Dodge firewall.

It started off as a panel truck, then I chopped it up.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
The front ends of these trucks are heavy, but I got it up there. Just clamped up and testing fit. Lots of trimming, welding, mocking, rolling, beating, seaming ahead of me! Holy cr@p what did I get myself into this time?

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Mocked up a spare 1/2 ton fender I had and I got a little scared. The front tire was about 6" too far back. But then I remembered that my good fenders (1.5 ton) have a way bigger wheel well opening. Dug one out of the shed and test fitted. Wheels are center, thank god.
1/2 ton fender: 1.5 ton fender: Look at that bulge! I think it'll look awesome with the dually fenders.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Not too much excitement here. I got the drivers side of the firewall almost done. Just need to plug the hole that is now just a half a hole and a little more work on the bottom of the cowl panel. It was a chore to make the cowl panel into the correct shape for the Dodge firewall.

Man I was wondering what happened to this build, I kept watchin for something to happen on the other one. Why did you start a new thread?

The other thread was just testing the waters. Plus it didn't have my cool project name in it!

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Drew up all my firewall filler plates and B-pillar plates in PlasmaCam tonight so hopefully I can get around to cutting them on the CNC plasma either tomorrow or Wed.

Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)
Cool its starting to look like a quad cab. I bet that CNC machine makes things a lot easier! Do you take it somewhere to have that done?
