68 C10 LS2,

Any insight on the install process for the LS2 V-8? Did you have to make custom motor mounts, use a custom oilpan, custom headers, or what?

I have a '71 C10 that I already installed a TH700-R4 with lock-up converter (did the slide the trans mount back install like you), now I'm thinking about upgrading to an LS engine from a car or truck.

Obviously I'll need an electric fuel pump and electric cooling fans as the LS-series engines have no mechanical fan ... but what else am I in for.

With a 1967 Camaro RS convertible I built years ago, I upgraded to an LT1 engine with a factory computer ... but had to turn off the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft Sensor) to make the system jive with the old Camaro. Any funny stuff that you had to do with the computer?

I bought my motor mounts from ECE but i do need to make plates to slide the motor back 3", the oil pan im using is the "LS Musle Car" swap pan (08 H3 pan) the headers im running 03 suburban headers(bigger primary tubes) that i had to cut and chop to make fit. Since im running an 02 setup i had to use the older (99-02) wiring set up but there are alot of kits out there that all you have to do is plug the play.

If I wanted to install a new LS engine (such as 2008 or newer) and wanted to eliminate the factory throttle-by-wire setup, what mechanical throttle-body would I use (stock from another year engine, aftermarket or what)?

I dont know if you can. All the sensors in the motor are different from 99-02, 03-06/early07, and late07-present.

Well i got the blower fixed today (bad o-rings in the housing that bolts to the blower/intercooler). It runs GREAT now that its not running on any antifreeze! I'm thinking next weekend it should be on the road along with more pics and videos.

Re: My 68 C10 Blowen LS2

Kiwi, why would you want to eliminate the electronic throttle? It makes setting up cruise control real easy, can be tuned how you like it. And the newer throttle bodies are pretty good size.

Re: My 68 C10 Blowen LS2

68 C10 LS2 (or anyone who knows),

It has been a busy weekend as I am in the midst of getting a brand new LS3 (426 hp) pulled from a 2010 Camaro SS. I learned that GM sells a "run kit" that includes most everything needed to wire a new LS engine to an older vehicle including a proper computer, wiring harness, and a special gizmo that attaches to an old-school throttle that converts it for use with a drive-by-wire throttle system. I plan on installing the engine in my 1971 C10 but have a few questions:

1. What motor mounts did you use ... and are you happy with them?

2. Did you retain the factory A/C pump from the new engine ... and if so, were there any clearance issues with the stock frame?

3. Did your TH400 bolt up to the back of the new EFI engine without problems?
(I already retrofit a TH700-R4 to my truck and I'm hoping that the trans will bolt up to the new LS3 engine without problem.)

John

That's too bad about the tune being off, but at least it's running

First time in this thread. Wow, truck looks great, too bad you're having so many issues. Where in MN are you at? I'm by fairfax. I think you're almost best off working your own tune out with EFI Live or HP Tuners. That way it's how you want it, and you can tune it on the street, track, dyno, etc and not have to take it to a guy every time.

10 miles per 6 gals? Ouch...but doesn't E85 burn as fast as regular alcohol? If that's true, I'd imagine you only getting a little bit more than this after the tune, especially when you are able to floor it!

Thanks. I live in Forest Lake. I was thinking about buying one of the tune setups but i have no qlue how to do any of that stuff. That and $500-$700 for the setup is a little pricie for me. I think getting it tuned once would be a lot cheaper. Since i am running E85 i will have the biggest HP tune put in it once and leave it.

I dont know about alcohol or how gas mileage works with that but to run E85 i do know its 30% more fuel than reg gas. Before i was getting about 15-16mpg with the old setup so i would guess that i shouldnt be less than 10mpg.

Well here you go guys and gals. Pics of the new motor setup. I still have to make a new intake tube so it stops sucking hot air from the radaitor. Sorry no video's of the motor running since the tune is so far off.

I'm running a factory 02 regulator that is built into the fuelrail from magnison. 58psi at idle and 62psi while driving. Pleanty of pressure for E85.

Re: My 68 C10 Blowen LS2

Well i havent logged in in almost a month, been very busy. So heres the update on the truck. I bought HP tunners and now able to send the tunes via e-mail to my tuner in Vegas. I got a new tune finally yesterday, it runs a 1000x's better but still no where near its full power. I can now give it full throttle and the highest boost level ive seen so far is 16 psi!!! I dont know of any root style blower that hits that high of boost (a least i havent heard of any).
