Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
You guys need to come to Ga. I could take to one guys house where he has at leaset 3 '58 and a '59 and I know a '56 just sitting back around the shed. Then I know of two other '58 locations.

Sarge, nice looking truck. Looking forward to following build. By the way, if the PB does not break bolts loose that you need to preserve or save, try malassis. The pure sugar in it reacts to the rust and will break it free. Look it up on You tube. I have done this. It will blow your mind.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Yeah, I've heard about molasses before, however I've never tried it. Most of the bolts that snapped couldn't be saved. They were just really eaten up over time. Next time I'm at the super market I'll buy some molasses. I'll probably end up sitting in the garage and eating it....

I heard vinegar works well, but I didn't hear that until after I was done tearing down my truck so I couldn't tell you if it works.
Anyway lets not get off the subject of your truck!

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
You know sometimes I need to just shut the hell up. My wife and I were coming back from the grocery store, and seen a huge yard sale. We stopped and looked around. I found some snap on tools and a few old Chevy signs. My wife calls me over to show me some wheels they had for sale. They were some old mag style wheels with new Coker white walls (white walls were still blue). Now they were dusty and dirty, But for $150 I wanted them. Closer inspection, I see they are Halibrand magnesium champ wheels. I found the owner, which happened to be an old lady. I told her to hold the wheels and tools till I got back from the bank. My total was $175 (tools and wheels and 3old chevy signs).
I told her I didn't feel right giving her the 175, would she take $400. She tells me to wait and heads inside. After about 10 minutes she comes back to tell me the wheels and tools are not for sale. She called her son in Colorado to ask how much they were worth. Now she's going to send them to Colorado so he can EBay them. If you see some Champ wheels with Cokers on Ebay from Colorado. Those were mine! Sometimes I need to just shut the hell up!

Nothing wrong with that, would've been nice if the old bat had appreciated it tho.....

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Hope junior can get her the $400 himself. He probably looked at what sellers are asking on Ebay, not a completed auctions. Lots of sellers wanting big dollars for the tires and wheels, few buyers at those prices. I wonder if junior checked on shipping costs to CO? Karma will frown on the greedy folks and make for interesting Thanksgiving dinner conversation for many years. I quit trying to correct other people lack of effort to find out what stuff is worth. I figure I end up selling or giving enough stuff away below value that it all evens out in the end.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
She was a sweet lady with a nice house. She didn't come off rude in anyway. I don't think she was hurting for money. She had a few boxes of tools, a lot of old car parts, signs. I didn't ask if they belonged to her husband or whether he was still alive or not (non of my business). Whoever the stuff belonged to was a Ford & Mopar guy. I'd have to think the owner was dead to allow all his stuff to be stretched out on tables for sale. Assuming it belonged to her dead husband. "Junior" must not be a car guy. Had it been my mother selling my father's trash. I'd show up with a U-Haul and rescue everything!
I made sure my wife knew that once I choke the goat. If she ever sells all my trash like that. I'm going to crawl out of hell and haunt the crap out of her.

Just last week I gave my wife a list of people to call when I kick the bucket to come and sell my crap, I won't care I'll be dead but don't want her to get ripped off you know? And I told her to VERY carefully check every item for a stash of "she money" (what "she" don't know won't hurt her) among my garage things.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I was able to get some garage time in today. Nothing major, but still somewhat closer. I don't plan on a 4 link (I'm sure I'll kick myself in the future). My plans are to move the leaf mounts forward 18 3/8 and weld in new cross members and a notch.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I moved my leaf mounts forward today. I flipped the front mounts to keep them from grinding the pavement. Also giving me a few extra inches in drop. I have to buy some wheels before I go any further in the rear. They stick out to far and won't allow me to set the bed.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Did you have to cut off any of the cab so that it would sit like it does on the cab mounts? the second pic that you have in your previous post, kinda looks like you did. Or am I just crazy? (It's ok you can tell me if I am

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I'm guessing the cab corners needed doing anyway and this is just for mock-up. Later you'll be moving those body mounts to the inside of the frame, and putting on new corners, right?

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Yeah Nick, your not crazy, I hacked them up. Bobinbc is right, it's just mock up. I was hoping to use that stock rear cab mount that's why I never cut it off. I'm going to cut it off soon and build a new mount.
I'm very impressed by the PO's body work. He/they riveted strips of aluminum over rusted out areas. Then drilled a bunch of holes around the area being worked on. Forced bondo into the new "patch" areas so that the bondo would mushroom into the holes and be able to withstand a 50 mph side impact. They reinforced the cab corners with window screen and bondo, freaken awsome work...hahaha

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
At least he used metal. I had a Caprice once that had fiberglass over newspaper stuffed between the inner and outer rear panels. Nicely rippled so it took about 1/2" of bondo.
