Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Jonz is right. The value of the truck will increase as a BBW. Your there with the front repair section anyways.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
you gonna pick it up or what?!?!?!?!?!? lol....unless he's taking advantage of your interest with a ridiculous price...you should grab this bad boy quick...i mean even if you eventually figure out you dont want to, or cant restore it for whatever reason...theres no question you'd be able to sell it to someone else and possibly make a profit.......just a thought....

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
I'd throw out $500.00 just to see what type of reaction you get. It's worth much more IMO even if you have to repair the roof. Mine has a decent roof although the drip rails have bad spots. It also has all of the typical rust. I need to do the cab corners, rockers, floors and fender tips along with a bunch of body work. I'd snap it up if I could.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Judging by what I have seen that truck would be in my driveway. The great parts of that truck far out weigh the rust issues. Seems to be an opportunity to pick up a nicely optioned truck without the hyped price, especially if they are "just selling an old truck". If you hesitate much longer some new member will be posting about what a great truck they scored.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Yea....still thinking about it. He isnt posting it anywhere, and is in no way "trying" to sell it. I just bought a 1955 Chevy 1st series pickup and a 1947 chevy fleetline and picked them both up today. I will post pictures of the 55 here for all to see.
Still might grab this 63.... you are all starting to talk me into it. |

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Buy it, cut out all the interior rotted metal and drive it like that. The'll be more head room.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
I would'nt worrie about the roof at all. Just get the roof off of another cab and do the BBW convertion all at the same time.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
I know that the BBW is sought after, but isn't some value lost when the conversion is done as oppose to being original?

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Trends come and go, while others remain eternal. A BBW has it's own appeal, as opposed to the SBW, which remains the basis of these years. The discussion has gone back and forth, pro's and cons of the difference, while in the end, it's how you see the finished product. The road to originality is an arduous one and can drive you insane. Thank's to the members here, what I thought was ALL THE SAME, are really quite different.I've been taught many a lesson and look forward to learning more, however, I'll build my truck the way I want, and more than likely, you'll do the same. Just remember to take a lot, then post, pictures as you go along. Pictures are our friends.....

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
I don't think value will be lost.
It isn't a low mile creampuff that hasn't been molested, and has been pampered in a garage all its life... It needs some work, and after that it wil not be original anymore. without the build sheet there is no way to prove/disprove what options actually came with the truck. these trucks just don't bring big bucks yet...I have seen many for sale for way less that was put in them. I would never do a 100 ppoint restoration on one of these and expect to sell it for what I had in it. I mainly suggested the bbw conversion, because I think when you get into the rust issue in the roof, you might find that it is easier to replace the whole roof rather than chase the rust. if you replace the roof it would be easier to convert than chasing bodywork through the back panel...also some people like the bbw better, It gets down to the question of wether you want /like the bbw or sbw.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
I am starting to entertain this idea. Does anyone know if there is a good write up on a roof replacemnet with pictures of the process? I am thinking of taking a welding class at a local community college to be able to tackle this...
Help would be appreciated! |

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
the link that areo is good for the bbw install, notice also the use of panel adhesive in the seam that you can't get to with a welder...
for replacing the roof check out the section of my 60 build in my sig, where I show how I chopped the top. you would have it alot easier than I did, because yours would be just a straight forward cut and replace. If and when you get to this point we (everyone here on the board)should be able to walk you through any problems/techniques of the swap.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Good information. The thing that really gets me about this truck is that the body is in great shape, and the engine runs really well. It could easially be a driver, while I did the little things that needed to be done (minus a roof replacement). I think it is solid enough to start with....
For me the most important aspects are covered, and the important parts are all there, which would make it a fun project that I could drive as well.... |

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
until you get to the roof.. I would just cut the rust out with a cutoff wheel, then paint on some of that rust converting stuff (por 15?) on the inside, to stop it from going any farther.
It definately would not keep me from driving it in the interm.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Is a cutoff wheel the best tool to use to do this or is there something else I sould be using?

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
he has 2.. next time I am out there I will ask him how much$$$
I would just use a cutoff wheel on that rust, mainly up above the windshiels where it is all jagged... remember to cover the windshield, so it dosen't pit.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
Yea, I will probably need a new windshield as well, which would probably need to be done at the same time. Would I replace the roof all the way to the upper windshield seam?
Maybe halfway down the pillars? |

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
You would likely need to cut the A-pillars about half way just to be sure you get any rust that may be in them as well. If you get this truck and need some help or pointers on the roof replacement, I could help you out since I'm not that far away.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!
You need to buy the truck first. Then start dreaming at least that way the thought is attainable. You won't wake up trying to go back to sleep to try and restart where you never were.Make an offer buy the truck!!GOOD LUCK!!!
