Re: Project 91 Bsquared

This wire was taped off and I was missing vacuum hoses from the egr and the cruise was going to the ac vent and another hose was supposed to be coming from the back of the manifold but instead was T connected to the wipers.

It started didn't it?

You want it fixed? Or you want it fixed right? To some people, there is no difference.

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

I can't figure it out, I got it running and took it for a short test drive. Then got stranded. But after 30min of sitting on the side of the road it started up, so headed back home and tinkered with it for a little bit before taking it out for another quick test drive which resulted in 2 more shut downs. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Sounds like something like this might be your best bet. I know thats what I'm going to have to do on my K5 based on the hacking I've seen in it so far....

Have you pulled your Dizzy's cap and checked for cracks ? Sounds almost liek there could be moisture in there.

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

My truck did that one time and it was the wires down by the starter that were in that metal tube heat shield thingy, but I think you said you already redid those wires

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

So when driving it just dies on you, right?
You check the wires at the starter? Have you replaced the ignition module? I have had one do that, when you drove it for a while it would die but you let it sit for a bit and off you would go, fuel pump going out would do it too..

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

Not much of an update:
I changed oil, fuel filter, spark plugs & wires, map sensor (code 33), spark control sensor (code 43), new starter and wiring, battery checked out good 12.4V, ignition control module (black piece under distributor cap) checked good although I've been told that when the engine warms up the ignition module or the coil (the shortest spark wire connect to in front of the distributor cap) with shut off and cause the engine to die while driving. Which is exactly what its doing, I can only get a few blocks away and the truck will die, then I have to wait about 10min before it will start back up and drive a few more blocks then die again. Another thing is that my truck has very little get up and go, I can only go about 50mph tops. Which could mean a clogged catalytic converter.
I hope to be very productive this weekend changing parts and getting it running strong.

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

My bet is on ignition module under the cap.............. In my experience coils are either good or bad most of the time.

Man! my big back passenger side window is cracked! Hope I can find one at the junk yard.
My theory is the landscapers mower flung a rock and hit my window

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

Adam, you damn lawn boys! lol a first I blamed neighborhood kids throwing rocks, or a drive by bb gun incident. But then I thought about seeing the landscaper driving his mower through the parking lot and since I haven't been driving my truck it was a sitting duck for debris. I've talked to a couple local guys parting out suburbans but I will let you know how it goes.
The thing I most bummed about is that in the corner of all the windows on my burb the glass is etched with the vin#

Re: Project 91 Bsquared

I think I have the true weatherstripping tool to install that locking strip on the window. Let me know if you want to try it out.

Edit:

I went the 12th street yard and there is an spray painted black 88 Sub with tinted rear windows still in it.
