Re: Comin over to the sqaure bodies with a '78 Silverado!

Thanks for the compliments guys. Look what just arrived in the mail today that I scored for $20 on ebay:

A NOS diesel badge

However, it is from either another year, or maybe GMC's diesel badges were a little different as you can see in the photos, it is not as rounded as my OG ones.

Re: Comin over to the sqaure bodies with a '78 Silverado!

I have a set of diesel badges from a 78 shortbed i found a junkyard last year. Also the one is near perfect with fades orange/red and the other has 3-4 small pits in it. Now you know where 2 are if you need em'!

72GMC - pm sent.

Also I found out that the square ones were for GMC's and the rounded ones were for Chevy's. I made a thread for future reference: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=509845

Re: Comin over to the sqaure bodies with a '78 Silverado!

OK! Here is my current project on the little brown truck:

So this may be a little weird for a 4x2 street driven truck, but I've decided to turn my old A/C compressor into an onboard air system. What the hell, right? I hate paying $1.50 at gas stations for air; I think that is rediculous. Plus I like being prepared and the idea that I can change a tire on the side of the road with an impact AND the compressor was already installed.

So, to start I used my current A/C compressor which is a FEMSA (made in Spain) and is exactly identical to the York 210 compressors. The only mod I needed to do to the compressor to use for compressing air instead of refrigerant was to block where the oil is pulled into the suction side of the compressor. When used for refrigerant, oil needs to be discharged through the system to lubricate other components. However, when used as an air compressor, it is not desirable to have oil go into your tires. So I drilled and tapped the little passageway from the bearing area (see pics) to block off oil flow to the suction port. I got my mod info from here:

http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/york_oilmod.html

I also needed to replace the bearing in the clutch/pulley assembly as it was wiped out. Here are some of the progress pictures. I will post more later after the install.

The CAT yellow was all I had laying around and I can't stand putting something back together without fresh paint. It won't stay that way forever, just until the truck gets torn down.

They are just your everyday centerlines. But I added clips and put hubcaps on them because I've never been a huge fan of centerlines, especially when they are old and the clear coat is toast.

Re: Comin over to the sqaure bodies with a '78 Silverado!

Thanks for the compliments!

Got the compressor installed today. Waiting for my friend to finish pressing in the new bearing into the clutch assembly then I can install that and get the belt on. I just spent some time today pricing out the rest of the components I will need for the system to function properly (and safely). Looks like this whole mod is going to cost me in the neighborhood of about $120. Not too bad.

Forgot the original owner gave me this receipt. Don't you wish gear vendors were still this cheap?

Re: Comin over to the sqaure bodies with a '78 Silverado!

Not much accomplished on the air set-up the last few weeks. Weather has been bad and money has been worse.

But, while sitting in doors, I have been coming up with ideas of where I want this build to go (whenever the actual build starts). I think I am going to go with a version that Chevy never actually made. I want it to look so factory that novice's wouldn't be able to tell whether it was factory or not. It is basically going to be a cross between the sport trucks and the diesel trucks and here is the first emblem I have come up with for badging:

The paint scheme will resemble the sport trucks, but will be different somehow. Not sure yet. What do you guys think?

Thanks man. Also, here is a prototype valve decal for the Olds 350:

I'd really like everyone's opinion on these ideas. Your guys' views and thoughts are what make this board what it is.
