Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

Ive been working on the inside of the bed this last week amongst the other things I have been doing. Here are some pics of my inner fender project. In order to raise them up to my desired height I had to notch them to fit the contour of the inside of the bed.

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

Notice I used nut inserts on the inside of the bed to fasten the fender. Ive also had the shocks revalved and stiffened way up trying to eliminate such violent wheel hop while Im boiling the tires

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

I will eventually have a raised wooden floor that has a hinging center section to display the back half and access the fuel cell. A local cabinet builder owes me a floor after I painted a couple things for him I just have to build the frame work for it first.

Very cool truck - excellent fabrication, and really dig the way you tied all the colors together.

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

WOW......... uh ..... WOW
that is an awesome truck and you and your roommate have some serious skill !

Can you explain a little bit of this steering linkage, Where did you get the joints and that thing that holds it to the frame above the c-arm. was there any other mods to make the steering work or was that it? also did I read that right you are running a small rubber strip as a body mount instead of moving the body mount brackets down on the frame? do you have a pic of your mounts? I might get a long frame and do something similar instead of hacking up my short frame. thanks for your time.

again WOW that is some awesome fab and paint work!!

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

Those are steering U joints you can buy them from any aftermarket part supplier or race car part source. theyre a little spendy (about $50 each). The arm that holds them is a heim joint that has the same inside diameter as the outside diameter of the steering shaft. The heim is simply attached to the frame with some 1" tubing. Thats the only modification necessary for the steering when you z the frame as I did. If I was to do it again I would definitely do a dropmember or at least not z the frame so much. It becomes a big hassle with engine, exhaust etc. The only other mod that comes in to play in the steering area is if you have a column shifter. youll have to modify your linkage or do a lokar cable setup. Thanks I appreciate the props on the build!

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

Almost forgot, what size steel stock did your roomie use for the back half ? im guessing 2x3x.125 DOM ??. Thanks,
Ive seen the "frame is a tank" before and thats a cool mod and definately saves on room not having to stuff air tanks under the bed. You guys did a very nice job on that as well.

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

o and also on the frame mount situation. Definitely move the factory mounts if you can. What I did hasn't proved to be the best plan I ever had. Good luck!

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

The square tubing in the back is 3/16" wall seamed tubing. it might be a little over kill but 160 psi is scary. And ya its a great space saver and truly a wow factor. everyone that sees it and hears that the frame holds air is blown away for some reason. Its kind of a pain to execute but its doable.

Re: layed out 67 swb project M.A.C.

Well once again its been awhile since I've been on the board but Ive stayed busy on my truck and made some awesome improvements and have been out enjoying it this summer. Burning rubber and checkin out local shows and cruise ins. Hope you all like what you see!

Ive done a new rear end. 33 spline dutchman axles, full spool with 3.73 gears. new diff cover. All new stainless brake lines and improved routing. Rear inner fenders. Remote trans cooler located under fuel cell with AN lines. Re built th350 with continental converter, manual reverse valve body. And last but certainly not least is a 412" small block with a hilborn stack injection from the 60's. All AN plumbing, belt driven fuel pump and fender well headers that were custom made. I also just added electric cut outs for un capping the beast. Its a haul ass unit and really looks unique now!
