Pulled out the front grill/ core support...
This will not do for Captain Krylon...  I took the thing apart to get it a little cleaner than what it was...    The front grill had runs and puddles from where Farmer Brown obviously painted it with a brush and who knows what kind of paint...So...  After a little sanding I grabbed the the can of Krylon and went to work... I also buffed out the oxidation on the old chrome and emblems... Here is the grill front reassembled with said chrome goodies...  After the core was good and dry from its rattle can assault... It got put back together and looked a little something like this...        Stay tuned... I will have more soon, but for now... I'm going to rest for a while... It's been a busy three days... HGS - Thanks...
All I did was buff the trim with Mother's Aluminum Mag Polish... The gloss white is from a rattle can picked up @ Wally World... No clear on anything... I will work on a professional paint job later as time and $$$ permit... Not purfect, but better than they were... Building a driver on the cheep... RC69 - Thanks... Well, since the last time we spoke, I have found out that...
It's the little things that can be a real PITA... I have found out that these kids, I mean, young men, who work in all the parts stores, know jack squat, about old stuff and don't know anything unless it's on the computer screen... In my quest for the "little things" I was successful in finding a carb gasket... And a bolt... Needless to say, I have spent a lot of time on Summit Racing's website lately... And boy, do they ship fast... I like to do my business local when possible, but... A mans gotta' do what a mindless, idiot has got to do... I remember what a pain in the rear putting headers on can be... It came to me like an Epiphany, after the third time of taking them off to modify or grind something down for clearance... Ahh... The joys of building a Hot Rod... Anyway... I was able to get all the stuff and finally got it installed... Here you will notice I was in "mock up" mode... Take note of the 8 foot long dipstick tubes from the van still on the motor...  After the dipstick replacements, along with the other goodies from Summit...     I'll now move on to the fuel department, where I'm sure to have more PITA moments... Until next time...

My local NAPA guy is the only one in town that knows parts... I can show him a piece and he knows right where to find it or order it... You can also find cheap prices on basic item from rockauto.com.
I gave up on my bix box auto parts store... unless I have a part # to give them then it's useless. He actually argued with me that my 68 K-10 didn't come with a 4bbl since his computer didn't have that option!

I got my Tubular X-member from CPP today...
I had a day off so I replaced the stocker I had in there... Nothing like the feel of hot, metal shaving falling down on you as you drill new holes...   I also had to find a little more clearance between the header tube and the starter so as to not burn it up as quickly... I hope... I modified the stock heat shield so it would work with the headers and while I was at it I put some Thermal Wrap by the starter as well... I am hopeful this will help it live a little longer than it would without it...  Now the big question will be... Does the driveshaft need to be cut?!? Stay tuned...

So, in answer to the question... Yes the drive shaft had to be shortened...
The guys @ NAPA machine shop in Conroe did a great job at an agreeable price... Old guys rule... I was able to get the tank mocked up and installed recently... Here is the empty hole that is about to be filled...  I got the straps where they need to be...  I use to race bicycles both on and off road back in the day before kids... I rummaged thru my bike tool box and found an old road tire tube... I sliced it in half and ran a razor around the diameter to make it useful for padding between the straps and tank...  Once everything was mocked up I checked for bed clearance....  It still needed a little adjustment, but here is what it is and will be...   I mocked up the plumbing and it looks kinda' like this...   I also incorporated a fuel shut off valve, so fuel filter changes will be easier regardless of how full the fuel cell is...  I will start the tedious and boring parts of hooking up gauges, power steering hoses, fuel lines, blah, blah, blah, etc... I brought this basket case home on July 4th of last year... I am aiming for a goal of at least starting her up by July 4th of this year... With that being said, wish me luck and words of encouragement as I really have my work cut out for me... not sure that i'd like to have all of my fuel lines exposed that much... isn't there a way to tuck it up inside the frame, similar to original?

 Gringoloco - Thanks... I was ready to start it a year ago... Unfortunately, the truck wasn't ready... Getting closer... R&K - Thanks... MSGross - If my measurements are correct, the bed will cover the filter and pump, but not the sump line out back. I put them there for easy access for service and maintenance. The hard lines will be ran to the front, "inside" the frame rails. If this doesn't work out as planned, it won't be the first, nor the last time I had to re-do something...
