Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
No build sheet yet unless it could be between foam and seat cover?
The pass door is stuck so tight it wont even wiggle or rattle, how do i go about getting it to budge? I can't see how to unbolt anything without it open? Can shake the truck with door handle but no movement! I'll post pictures in a couple days.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
On my Longhorn when I first got it, the LH door was the same way. I applied upward pressure on the door handle and yanked hard and it opened right up.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
probably have to take the inner door panel off and get it from the inside with some wd-40 or PbBlaster ect..

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Thanks for the ideas guys. I soaked everything with Kroil two days ago and still no movement on the door. No rattle, no inward motion even when I push the entire door in hard. It feels like nothing is being activated behind the handle button when I push it. I'm headed out to the shop now to torch off or drill out the bolts holding the seat down so i can get it out and the door panel off. Man its nasty inside the cab! Its amazing what years of neglect and a broken vent window will result in
After i get the seat out i'm going to cut the cover off and see if I cant find a build sheet. Man this truck is rough but its what I expected and I need to test my skills so I think it will fit the bill. Friends and family see something that should be hauled off to the junkyard but I see the potential in this unusual truck!!

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Keep working. Make sure the door is not locked. Try rolling down the window and spraying the door lock mechanism through the window slot.
Don't listen to friends and family. I hear that all the time about all of my stuff. I have not found a build sheet in my truck. Maybe you will have better luck in yours. Mine has a sticker on the roof, but no sticker on glovebox about the hubs. Does yours have a glovebox hub sticker? My truck and yours may have been made the same day. The vin #'s are only a few digits different I think. |

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
The build sheet would be on the back of the upright, are you saying there is a back cover on the seat? or are you thinking it would be under the seat cover?
hard to beleve the seat boltsd are stuck as well it almost sounds like the hinges are rusted together, can you get some penetrating oil to the hinges from the outside? I'd take off the inner door panel and soak everything from the inside ( unless you allready did that) .

I got the seat out. You're right, the bolts came right out, luckily half were already out from the previous owner. Seat sure looks original but no sign of the build sheet on the bottom or back. The seat has an open bottom and back. I was wondering if it could be under the cover between the seat cover and foam? Would make crumpling noise though so they probably didn't want them there originally. Next thing I'll do is take the door panel off. Inside lever seems to be pulling the mechanism but even a few hard kicks from inside the cab did nothing Here are some pics of the neat labels. Is this mirror mount unusual? Also a pic of the interior after i cleaned out a couple bags worth of crud.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Thanks Rick. I love the vent window levers/latches in these since they are larger and have the stamped grip lines in them. So the mirror bracket is correct for my truck?

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Are there too many holes in the spare tire mount? More pics highlighting some of the features:

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
I'd bet both the hinges and the latch mechanism are rusted so keep soaking them and try to get the latch moving.. Nice spare tire carrier bracket too. I don't think the build sheet would be inder the seat cover, i have seen pic's of them between the spring backing and foam.
I'm pretty sure when i first took my seat out it had a build sheet in it, but it was really torn and tattered and i couldn't make much out of it so i tossed it.. Now i wish i haden't cause i just didn't know what it was..

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Jud, everything is looking good on your truck. Now I can see the mirror bracket that I am looking for.
Those stickers look great. It also has a locker in the rear as well. That power steering looks to be correct to me. Very rare on a 4x4. Last edited by 75gmc454; 02-04-2011 at 06:54 AM. |

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!
Got the pass door open, took the door panel off, found that everything was rusted in the open position so rust was the only thing keeping it shut. The latch wheel was rusted on its axle and it took about a dozen hard kicks to pop open. I dented the door I had to kick so hard but thats ok i think i will look for a door with less rust.
Also got all the wood out of the bed and powewashed everything. The wood was so rotten i didn't even have to remove the bed strips. She looks better now and I'm pleasantly surprised to find no scale or pitting anywhere on the frame or chassis. This thing is pretty clean underneath and I'm therefore glad I paid to ship in a western truck! Its hard to get pics since it got dark last night right after I washed it (yes, it was freezing outside and I had to run hot water from my shop out to the pressure washer). The quality on these spotlights is absolutely amazing! If something this precise was made today it would cost hundreds of dollars. This one cleaned up nice, I don't suppose theres any chance the GE glass is original? Engine is locked up but i pulled all the plugs and squirted a ton of Kroil in there. Going to need some sheetmetal and maybe an engine...

Its looking better. The motor will break free, just let it soak a few days. The spotlight looks great. I like that yellow too. Dont forget to clean that cowl area too like I did.
