Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

well got a little bit more done today..
but first let me show you what happened yesterday!!

this was the bearing that was in the neck of an engine stand i am borrowing.. i was gonna move the motor from my garage to my shop on the side of my house
right as i was pushing it out of the door i hit a small crack in the sidewalk and 1 of the bearings in the neck of that stand exploded and my motor went for a concrete dive..
luckly it didnt really do any major damage.. it managed to not touch the end of the crank at all!!!!!

broke the water neck, few spark plugs, dented up my valve covers
o well i wanted aluminum finned vc's anyway

luckly i was smart enough to pull these off before i tried to move it

got these from a buddy for 250.. never been ran before
the drivers side hangs bout an inch below the factory oil ... i might have to cut it down a lil bit

i cleaned and painted my intake mani

then i played around with an idea of how im gonna mount my bed and raise the floor and what not
i had to find a good use for this cool looking spiral stock i had

im gonna take the factory rails out and weld this across a lil higher to raise the floor to clear the notch

on the bottom part of the spiral it is solid so im gonna drill and tap all of them to 1/2 inch or so and have jack bolts coming out of the stock mounts on the frame so i can adjust the bed any way i want to!!!!

ive pretty much got it figured out how im gonna do it so i will prolly pull the bed back off pretty soon to do all the welding.. still have to figure out how much i gotta cut those wheel tubs..

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Sucks about the engine. Why do you want to raise and lower your bed floor? Is that a 350 my finned covers wouldnt clear.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

im making it to where i can adjust the whole bed to make it really easy to get the body lines how i want..plus im thinking bout doing a small body drop on the cab so this will make it easier to line it up if i do end up doing that..
also i want a factory looking wood bed and i dont want a big hole in the middle so im raising the wheel tubs and the height of the floor
and no it is a 454...hope i dont have to do too much cutting on the firewall

The bed mounts sound like a pretty cool idea.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

thanx man i think it turned out pretty cool!! i got them tacked into place today.. gonna pull the bed off and finish welding it.. gonna add a few more smaller pieces of tubing for more braces.. dont wanna make it too heavy!!!

this will be the height of the floor

here is how the adjustment works... gotta get some longer bolts
just adjust it up or down by moving the 2 jam nuts

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

Jusy wondering how strong that will be? Side to side. Seems like a lot of force on a nut and washer. Compared to the orginial. Where's it's bolted direct to the cross member. who knows. Just seems like all that force is now on the sides of the nut. Bet that Lakesideroadster guy would put it on his cad system and show ya a bunch of nice colors and stuff. Wish I was there I would give it a good wiggle test. Do like your work though.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

well it is still gonna use the factory rear mount that is under the tailgate to.. it feels super solid even with it just being tacked in place ( i wiggled the sh#@ out of it)

besides i dont plan on haveing more than 500lbs or so in bed so im pretty sure it will be ok.. also im planning on doin about 3/4inch or so body drop so those bolts wont need to be adjusted out that far after i do that

If I had my computer in the garage I would never have to come in the house. Sucks about the engine.

How deep will the bed be?
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Just need a few pointers on how!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

the boards will sit on top of the square tubing so it will be a little more than a foot deep

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

i set my tubes 2 1/4 below the crease and it will be just a lil higher than the notch

the easiest way to figure how u need to do yours is to keep a few of the stock rails in your bed and set it on there to see how tall your notch is. then build your floor height from that .. cause i made my notches and they arent as tall as most ive seen so if you use my measurements it might not turn out right

Figure I might poke a little fun....you do realize you have the right side valve cover on upside, right?

Awesome build, keep up the great work
