Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Im diggin that bumper! Does it sit so low because the truck is body lifted? I just got the pricing for my bumpers and the guy said 800 total for front and rear. Not looking to do that anytime soon sadly... Got alot more to do to the truck till i get that far along.
You lookin to sell? [;

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
The bumper was on the truck when I bought it,back in '84. It built even with the top of the frame rail for strength. The body is not lifted. The space there has bugged me for years, just not sure what I want to do to fix it. I'll probably cut it up and redo it, after I change the body bushings.
To bad I don't have a tube bender, I could build build them cheaper than 800, depending on what you want on the rear.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
My uncle built them! He had a pretty sweet 86 swb, sadly he sold it.
He has the jig for them... He ran 4" of lift and didnt need any alignment shims!

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Good looking arms.
Here is the rear bumper on mine, needed a hitch and wanted everything up high and out of the way.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Didnt come out lifted as much as i hoped... but oh well. What matters is that those upper arms baught me ALOT of travel! New ball joints, Bushings,Bearings, etc. Took it out to plaster city, as expected did not do too good in the woops, but did amazing on the smoother stuff! Front shocks are next on the list!

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
The lift looks good. Did you cycle it through without the spring to measure the travel?

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
sadly, no... Took it out to plaster city though and did phenomenal compared to before lol! Just need a set of bilstiens in the front and itll be just were i wanted it.
What i can tell you is that those arms got me about 4 inches more droop, and those 31's were hitting the wheel wells at full compression, so idk if that tells you much [; I got a few tricks up my sleeve to gain anywere from 2-4 more inches of droop. But man, it doesnt look how i wanted it to at all. but, it sure does perform offroad. Adjusted my tv cable today, and it made a HUGE difference. Ill keep you guys posted though Ill be trimming a few things this weekend, and hopefully pulling the overload in the rear.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Just a little update,
I am 100% unsatisfied with the way this has came out... Trimming things is getting pushed to this weekend.. And honestly... When i get the front shocks(which wont be for a while..) Im just gunna start beating the **** out of this thing. Its supposed to be my daily and its so unreliable and a gas hog its been designated a play vehicle... Really makes me mad when things don't come out right. Sorry for the rant... Im gunna begin making my list of things i want to do today and go from there.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Ah, well just leaky 305, need i say more!
Ive pretty much gotten everything ironed out. New Distributer, Good Wires, Plugs, Hooked up the pcv valve, etc. Its been running allright for a little bit. Been spending money on my snake addiction, but im about to leave it to what i have now... or try too! But yeah, im gunna run to the parts store and pick a few small things up that ive had my eyes on. But besides that. Im planning on pulling the bed floor, Trimming my front cross member for more travel, (better alignment too - Upper arms are 1/8 too long). Im debating getting an allright welder (preferably tig) and playin with that here and there and build some things, or buying more parts. Ive been on the fence with the truck lately.(still am) Its hard when its your daily!! Im gunna devise a list of the things id like to do that are graspable tasks at the moment. Ill be sure to post it! [;

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Snake addiction?
Keep working on it, in the end you'll be glad you did.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
yea man you need to keep at it and eventually youll have a truck you wouldnt trade for anything else, plus its pretty cool to see a 2wd off road build, i have to say i never thought of building a prerunner but it looks awsome.
i would defintly go with a tig welder, by far the best tool anyone could have and if you get good at it you can make some money off of it by welding aluminum. i will tell you if you get access to a tig welder you will use it to weld things that could be mig'd or stick welded together just because the tig welder looks tons more professional lol |

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
yeah, started with a little 2 ft garter snake, that lead to a corn snake, that led to ball pythons, now i have a pastel boa constrictor. You buy/breed a few, and the first thing that happens is you want more!

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
The word you were looking for was Delrin. I work with it a lot machining. Great stuff. Sorta like Teflon in lube properties, and strength, but cuts so much nicer...
Sorry to hear of your engine issues. Any local junk yards? Maybe a fuel injection system from a original FI 305? Would be a cheap way to max out what you have now as far as reliability, and mileage.

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
Weighed the truck yesterday, 3850 with me in it.
Also installed a flowmaster super 40 and removed my old pancake cat. Sounds a whole lot better, ended up messing up one of the gaskets (were the header meets the y pipe) so it has a tiny exhaust leak.. but i guess ill be in the market for some headers! Do they make any headers that bolt on to the stock y pipe?

Re: Slow moving, Mild Prerunner build
but it shouldn't be that much to have one made..if you can or know somebody that can weld, you can can fab one up easy...a piece if straight pipe..1 90 degree bend & you gat it..
