Jim (bollybib) -

I got the fridge magnet today... I like it! I going to find a place to put it in Miss Daisy. I'll send you a picture.

Thanks,
Wayne

Hey mbmajorp -

Nice work... I like those alloy wheels. Are those custom or factory?

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

It's been too HOT to do much to Miss Daisy here in Tennessee lately, but I was able to work on the door signs a little.

My next step is too "age" the sign and lettering to get the final look I want.

Here's a photo...

Nice job.

Just by coincidence I'm off to Possum Creek to get my truck serviced. I hope they give me a lift home in their cool truck.

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

Well guys, I ventured into parts unknown with Miss Daisy this week! I decided that I was going to replace the ugly, ragged rocker panel on the passenger side.

This was my first time doing surgery of this type on any vehicle of any kind. After many hours of researching the forums and repeating to myself "I think I can... I think I can...", I grabbed the cut-off wheel, drill, and my lucky hammer!

Scary stuff... but, I found that if you take your time, it really can be done at home in your driveway. The procedure goes as follows: 1. Drill out the spot welds. 2. Hammer your big screwdriver in behind the panel. 3. Cuss the panel because it's still stuck. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 approximately 3,816 times while periodically wiping away the blood from all the cuts on your fingers. Simple stuff like that.

After about 4 hours of prying, drilling, cutting and smoothing, this is what it looked like. I coated the exposed metal with POR-15 then primed it with both etching primer and filling primer.

The replacement panel did not fit too well. The part of the panel at the striker pillar wasn't too bad, but the area where it attaches to the hinge pillar was terrible. Not knocking LMC, but this thing was just awful. Somebody has to offer panels that at least come close to fitting?

After I drilled and aligned the replacement rocker, my son in law, Alan, came over and welded it into place. He really did a nice job. Now, all I have to do is smooth out the welds and put the new rocker in primer for now.

I think it looks pretty good for an old man!

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

Nice to know it isn't all that difficult to do. Yours came out nice. My DS panel needs to be replaced someday and after seeing your work, I won't be so timid about doing it myself (after obtaining a good supply of bandages of course).

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

I don't see anything wrong with it. Great job 'Pops!

FYI, this truck will likely go in eBay in a week or so. If you know of anyone who might be interested or looking for a good start on a shop truck, this one is really a good ole truck. As you can see Dad has been through just about everything on it. I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. I'd like to see someone from the forum get it before we throw it on EvilBay.

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

Low Elco - I hate to sell her, but yes we are selling Miss Daisy. My son and I are trying to figure out a fair price for the truck. He is needing parts to finish his '69 C10, and I am waiting for my first Social Security check in October, so money is a little tight.

When we decide on the price, we thought about putting it for sale here on the forums for a week or two. If it didn't sell, then we could go to EvilBay.

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

It was a sad day today... my son and I sold Miss Daisy.

I want to thank everybody that encouraged me through the process of bringing this old truck back to life. I have a 2008 model truck, but can honestly say that this 1968 C10 was more fun to drive and got more attention than anything I have ever driven.

I gained a lot of experience working on this truck, which I can put to good use on my son Chad's '68 frame off big block C10. I hated to see this old girl go, but she is going to a great guy.

I appreciate each and every member's advice. This really is the best C10 forum out there.

I have my eye on another '68 CST short fleetside a couple of miles from my house, so maybe I will do a "Driving Mrs. Daisy".

Re: Driving "Miss Daisy" - 68 SWB Stepper

Here's a cool update from the guy that bought Miss Daisy.

His name is Mike, and he lives in New Jersey. He is a super nice guy, and really knows these old trucks. It's kind of funny that a shop truck from Possum Creek, Tennessee is now tooling around up north.

He has just added an old school 3 two's intake as well as a new vinyl seat cover, seat belts, stereo, fan shroud and gauges. It's like he read my mind. I LOVE IT!!!

He sent me some photos... man, I miss that old truck. Oh well, there is another one out there that needs saving.
