Re: What type of oil do you use?

I have been using Pennzoil on all my vehicles for 20+ years. None of my engines have had oil related issues. I use conventional 10W-30 in my 69 C15 with a 350 crate motor. I run synthetic 10W-30 in my Chevelle, and both my more modern cars use synthetic 5W-30. I almost always get 5 quart jugs on sale for $20. I also use NAPA gold filters on my V8s, AC Delco & Purolator filters on my newer cars. I used Fram for many years with no problems as well. I would say that the important thing is to change it and make sure you don't run low on oil. I change oil and filter generally every 3k miles or 6 months, depending on what comes first.

Re: What type of oil do you use?

I just read the entire thread, and I think some important points have been left out, at least if the point of the exercise is to minimize engine wear, and prolong the life of the beast.

I think the way the engine is treated is more important than the brand of oil used. Driving gently until the engine is warmed up, driving long/far enough to thoroughly heat the engine before putting it away, using the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer, keeping the cooling system in good order so as not to overheat the engine, etc. etc.

If you do all that, and change oil at reasonable intervals, any quality oil should ensure very long engine life. Personally, I use Mobil 1 5W-30 in my trucks, and buy it when I spot it on sale. Napa gold or AC Delco filters have always worked for me.

I do not use additives, as GM specifically recommends against oil additives.

Talking Re: What type of oil do you use?

4 years with O-Reilly's oil and no problems.
4 years at 3 changes a year so that is $30.00 saved each year.
$90.00 saved so far. In another year I can take the family out to eat for free!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What type of oil do you use?

One year and 12,000 miles with Kendall 20w50 and a one quart oil filter puts me at the full line until it's time to change oil, about 3,000 or so miles then it's at the add line. This is in my 350 bored .040 with a Comp Cam XE250H and hi pressure oil pump out of a vette. I'm due for an oil change and am considering a 30w oil with a ZDDP Add.

Re: What type of oil do you use?

Call me crazy, but my leaks (likely rear main) were reduced to near nothing using Mobil 1 Vs Durablend. Apparently Mobil 1 is more gasket friendly.

Re: What type of oil do you use?

Mobile-1 full synthetic for turbo motor 5w30. 10w40 and regular cheap brands for others. Wix filters typically.

I was raised by my environment to stay away from Pennz. Something about the gunk it would inevitably cause in the engine was always the explanation. I realize now that this was probably not true but I have not used it!

Maybe I'll put some in the wife's honda! lol.
