Well, if you want to talk about wheel screw-ups ...
I wanted 16" wheels to run E range tires on my 1991 Suburban, so I bought a set of steel 6-hole 88-98 wheels from junkyard (you might see where this is going). The bolt pattern was right but the center hole was too small so a I got a neighbor to cut them out very nicely with his plasma cutter - all FIVE of them of course. But the back spacing is different so the later 16" wheels hit the tie rod end and won't work Eventually I just bought some 15" rallies because one of the factory alloy wheels was cracked.
