Re: Project: "Home Grown"

I'd recommend tri plus/keyparts bedsides and fenders for aftermarket. I have seen several people's trucks with their fenders and beds and they look great. I have used other brand fenders that didn't fit well at all...

Or....look out west for nice rust free originals.

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Brother's one piece have been used by several on here with good results. One piece products makes one also and supposedly the latest revision is nice. Earlier ones had many fitment issues. The difference is brother's has a metal triangle in the front corner....one piece eliminates this...

A friend of mine did his and said he had to make some cuts in his door near the upper hinge, I wonder if the true "one piece" is the one requiring this, the Brothers kit seems pretty straight forward

Well, I have noticed most finished trucks have the Brothers style with the small triangle, and honestly I think that will give me a nice mounting point for some small side mirrors, judging by the instructions on brothers site, not much cutting is needed. The One Piece kits look like a TON of work.

Anyone used the one piece design?

I used the brothers kit and it worked great. Here's a pic of how we installed the side mirror.

Perfect! As much as I would like a true One piece window, I already have enough headaches on the build list, and your mirrors are very similar to what I want to do, keep them holes out of them doors !

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Very nice! The truck is looking good.

Where did you get the mirrors Billet Specialties or Sun Spec? Also how sturdy do they look to you or how do you think they would hold up to on a truck that was driven on a regular basis?

Bougth them through Yogi's, I'm sure they are Sun Spec (Foose design) on head with straight arm. They have two screws thru the back of arm and are real sturdy....Jim

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Looks like all my Drop Spindles & Springs should be in this afternoon from CPP, Nate is waiting on some pieces to arrive to finish up my Stage 1 rear kit, I received the air bags with lines & schraders yesterday

Today I am shopping for Rotors, I am leaning towards www.Brakeperformance.com, they have a nice selection, reasonably priced, free shipping, lifetime warranty, and offer the same front and rear rotors for a mis match set up. 72 C10 front disc with the 95 Impala SS rear. And they even toss in free pads

Next up is an engine seal kit, anyone have any suggestions? I am going to re paint the whole thing so I need a kit, with some head gaskets. I remember when I worked on my engine last I hated them junk ass intake gaskets without the printed seal, but most "kits" don'd include the nice intake gaskets.

Going camping this weekend so no work on the truck, hopefully next week and weekends to do list

- Install Ft Spindles, Springs, Rotors
- Start Stage 1 install with Cnotch
- Swap 5 lug axles from donor truck to the 6 lug rear
- Start Re Assembly on SBC 327

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

So, on my brake rotors.

Black Zinc or Silver? I plan to run chrome rims with powdered suspension components likely black & silver theme. Im leaning towards the black, just not sure about how it will look sitting near the center hub of the wheel. Suggestions?

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

I scored my needed grille filler a week or two back from a board member what a life saver! Now I just need to get it cleaned up and primed.

Also ordered up some of these 67-72 rear cab speaker brackets, I ordered them without holes, I may end up installing a component set into them. Not sure

And to find out for sure if i want to use any repop metal I ordered a bed side and fender today, should be here tomorrow. If they are good my bedsides and fenders will be for sale.

Ha, yeah, you caught that hey, well I work in a body shop, and my donor truck sits out there with the rest of the wrecks, the gold on is a Saturn that's been there for over a month, a total, so is the silver CRV. Neither by my driving skills

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

So my bedsides, battery tray, rear roll pan, and fender are due in today from Goodmark.

Does anyone know if the rear roll pan will need to be welded to the bed? I was wanting to send my steel bed floor out for a light line X coating and want to be able to then bolt it back together without the need to transport the entire assy. I only want to line x the floor not the wheel tubs or the sides.

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Update:

Well I received my fender and bedside yesterday, quality is pretty darn amazing, few lil issues here and there, but I feel this is the best solution to my rust problems, esp since I don't have the time or patience to find original metal out west or down south. So yesterday I ordered the other fender, Tailgate, bedside, along with a new rt cab corner, since the one installed about 12 years ago fits horribly.

All of my porterbuilt products arrived yesterday and these things look AMAZING! Mad props to Nate and his crew!

Friday my rotors will be in as well.

I will post photos of all my new gifts shortly, but there's just so much stuff that keeps arriving its hard to keep up. Damn I need to get to work on this stuff

Wishes for this weekend:
- Get truck to the shop and start cutting off frame components to mock up all new PB products
- Assemble Bed assy to ensure fit of new sheetmetal
