Right, I'll have to take up two or three parking spots when I go to the store!

Guts or not, I'm. Trying desperatly to not have a pile of scrap metal when I get done. It's taken several years for me to get the "guts" and have the parts to do this. With the birth of our fifth child and a great desire to take the fifthwheel camping it gives me a good excuse to do what I've talked about for years. :-)

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

It's starting to look like something now. What are you going to do with the roof where you have the Suburban roof with the ribs and the extended cab roof that is smooth?

Back in July of '97 I was at the Sport Truck Nationals in Owensboro, KY. There was a truck there with a similar concept. It was born as a crew cab dually that got totalled. When he rebuilt it, he swapped it to a shortbed and added the extended cab section from a 3-door truck, so he ended up with a 5-door crew cab shortbed dually. It was slammed with nice paint and wheels...slick truck. I wish I could find the pics of it I took (way before my digital photography days.)

I took the roof rack off and set aside with hopes of useing it on the truck, however, now I'm thinking that it might look silly. Either way I planto extend the ribs into the xcab

I would love to see photos of another truck like mine, hope you run across your photos.

I agree there. Run without the rack for sure.

Yeah, odds of finding them are pretty slim.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Do you have any photos that show the graft from the side? The gap from the rear door to the ex cab window doesn't look to be much more than stock. "FankenBurb" is look mighty nice.

I left about 3 inches behind the back doors of the burb, to keep structure, and the body lines of front and rear doors are not the same. I plan on takeing some more pics this afternoon.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

some more pictures:

Pic 1 is gas tank relocation

pic 2 is plywood bed cover I had for my other shortbed. I put on this truck to hide the gas tank in it's temporary location.

pic 3 and 4 is a close up of side view. I should mention, that I tweeked the cab when I was cutting it apart. That is why it appears things are not lined up in the picture. I will have to adjust this.

To learn from my mistakes guys, make sure you cut all the way through the sheet metal body before cutting the frame, and when you do cut the frame, have some more support than I did so nothing falls. Otherwise, you will be adjusting the cab later like me

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

How does the roof line up? Close? Or do yoy need to massage it to blend?

It will look good after the paint is layed on.

What is the length of the wheel base, now?

It's close, I tweeked the cab a little when cutting it apart, by doing it wrong, so I have some work ahead of me

I belive the wheel base is somewhere close to 182" on a side note I did some research the other day and found that most crew cab long beds average 165". So 17" off, I say not bad, but we will see when it hits the road.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

It looks like ext cab is tilted back..have you thought is removing tha outer skin from tha burb. Jacking tha cab up & lining everthing up & filling tha gap back in with tha peice you cut out. you may have to shim tha cab mounts ...just a thought..

Thanks for the close up pictures! This is looking really good. Just my 2 cents, but I think this truck would look killer slammed as a dually.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

This is what I meant by "tweeked" the cab.

Pops, I think I still have some trimming to do on the sheet metal to get it to lean in forward. And yes, once I start on the cab, I probably will shim the cab mounts to line them up.

Project, as for slaming it. ?? why slam a 4x4 ?? Maybe if it was two wheel drive.
I agree though, I'd like to see someone slam one, just not me

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Now you can build a Tahoe out of what you have left of the Suburban and Truck! No waste..

thought about that, but, if you look at the axle placement on the suburban vs axle placement on a two door tahoe aka blazer....the suburbans is much closer to the front. Too close in my opinion. I'm thinking a pull behind for car shows or something.

Man, great job! I have been wanting to do this to a square body, or a OBS F-350 for ever. But I can't get any other projects done to get to a big project like that. Great job!

Thanks guys, I hope to get to work on it sometime this week. Went back to work, and got some chores done, so maybe some playtime in the evening is in order.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Couple of nights ago, got a mufler put on so I don't scare the horse and kidos every time I start the thing. Also got the rear brakes working again too. Replaced a busted shock and figured out that the body bushings on a 94 sub urb an and a 91 pickup are different. Gonna have to shim it for sure.:-)
