There's a bolt underneath the distributor cap, loosen that, that allows you to rotate the cap. I'd never actually done this before, and I cant for the life of me remember which way I rotated it to advance the timing...you'll hear your idle go higher or lower depending which way you spin it. Once your timing is where it should be, you can just adjust your idle screw so it doesnt idle weird.
All i did with the carb was just move the little vacuum hose that goes from the front of the carb back to the distributor, switched that from the passenger side to the driver side of the carb, played with my throttle connection a little bit, was able to get way better throttle response, between the timing and the vacuum line....
That's just how I did it, but I'm definitely NOT a mechanic, lol, so there might be better ways :P

That is a beautiful truck, I love it.

I have not touched either of my squares in over 3 months. I recently pulled the tags an insurance on my 78 since I haven't driven it in over 6 months.

Re: What did you do to your truck this week?

Cleaned it out. Took the plates off it. Listed on Craigslist

Before I did that, I took it for a last drive, and broke the tires loose and left some rubber from a 1-2 shift
