Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
Hey FrankieD, I picked up a salamander heater and 100# propane tank a couple years back. It heats my garage to 70 degrees in about 30 min. on the coldest days. also it only cost @ $40.00 to fill the propane tank. Oh and dont listen to 71Sleeper, rubbing it in about how warm it is. c'mon man.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
Yes I know about the weather in the south in the summer you can ring the air out it is so humid. I will stick with boring cold Illinois at least we don't have to dodge hurricane's and tornado's, there is always a price to pay for living in Paradise.
I have a kerosene torpedo heater I am going to try that and see how that works but at $5 a gal I might opt for buying the propane one or I might try to do it at work on the weekend. I run Maintenance in a 160000 sq ft office building an have a large empty office (5000 sq ft) but I have to worry about the smell

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
Frankie, I've got a smaller torpedo heater that runs on kerosene or stove oil and it does leave an odor no matter which one you run it on. I use mine in a tent carport thing or aim it in the door of my old one car garage but I wouldn't want one in closed up building.
I used a bunch of the bigger Propane ones from Grainger in a big food processing plant/warehouse to keep things from freezing. I think we had at least ten of them going at one time in the whole operation. They used propane like it was going out of style though. |

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
I did managed to borrow get a propane one to run with my kerosene heater. It did stink up the garage with the kerosene one but I did manage to get the fenderwells primed and sanded I have decided to paint them body color so am going see if I can get them done tomorrow if the weather holds up

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
[QUOTE=Dieselwrencher;5094546]$90 is way better than what you'd get for scrap so I think you did alright. Not to many people looking for 307's anymore.
Thanks Diesemwrencher I had it on Craigslist in a in a few markets and on wecrash.com and got one call and he is the one that bought it. More money for the truck fund or the next toy as I see it.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
FrankieD. I just read your build and great job.
I'm lucky I have a nice warm shop to go to. I checked where you are located way north west of Chicago. I have a sister in Mundelein and family in the Dundee/Carpenter's area or they were there. IL weather stinks. Hot and nasty summer then damp cold, soon freezing bitter cold. But its all I know. Would love to be in AZ # my in-laws for the winter. Awesome ride. It sure is the little stuff that is just killing me time and money. Rob |

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
CL seems to do it for me I put it in for $100. I also bought a set of STS wheels and tires for my sisters Bonneville for cheep and got rid of a set of 4 Outlaws and 295/50X15 tires this weekend so it was a profitable weekend. The trick is to have more than one CL account then you can get it out to a lot more areas.

Craigslist find here is the ad: Chevrolet Truck Custom chrome mag Wheels and tires 2 wheel drive 5 lug - $300 These are 4 Custom 17 inch wheels and tires off of a 2 wheel drive Chevrolet or GMC 1/2 ton truck theey have 5 lug holes. (Lugnuts are included) They look great and the tires are still in pretty decent shape. Tires are Falken Ziex STZ Radials Size 275/60R17

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
Defiantly looks like a deal I just hope they fit right the ones I bought last year didn't look right sticking past the fender well looked little to south of the border (post 44) so they went on craigslist and a guy from south of the border bought them at a profit of course.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois
Got off early from work and drove the 1.5 hrs to Milwaukee to pick up the Wheels and tires I didn't think they were as big as they were or I would of grabbed my sons 93 short bed but I stuffed them in the Impala 2 in the back seat and 1 in the trunk and one sticking out of it. I really need to get a little truck or a short bed with a V6. Anyway when I got them home I looked to see who made them. They are KMC Wheels I did a search to see how much they cost new the cheapest were $250ea up to $360ea and the tires 3 are around 40% and one being 90%, of course I had to show the wife what a good deal I got to justify burning a half tank of gas. My son offered $325 for the for his 93 short bed, I told him I love ya son but not that much.
