Re: Project Immoral Appearance
a pillers tacked after checking to make sure everything is square, might be hard to tell, but again I used some old nails to help weld the gap up, inner roof is now on inside of cab, outer roof is to the outside, tomorrow will be more fitting and trimming as I go, should have it all tacked up tomorrow

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
I know where LIberty Hill is. If I go thru Austin on my way to Fredericksburg I pass right thru there.
Are you going to leave the wedge chop or remove some from the rear also?

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
So I am taking a couple day break from the chop due to holidays and extended family in town, but thought I would tell you about how I plan on doing the bed wood. There is a process called hydro-dipping that will let you coat metal/plastic in a pattern of your choice. (http://www.hydro-dip.com/index.htm) I helped build a 41 cadillac a couple years ago where we did the dash, and it turned out amazing. (http://www.sachserodshop.com/current/large/harvey55.jpg) So I decided I am going to take some chunks of aluminum and create "bedwood" from them using steel strips in between that will be painted to match body color. I am going with the redish color I previously sprayed up top, with a black bottom, and a ghosted silver in between the two. I will then do a dark burlwood bed. (http://www.hydro-dip.com/images/Cust...es/WTP-186.jpg). what do you guys think?

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
That hydro-dipping stuff looks pretty cool! I'd like to see what it looks like in a bed. Wht did you use for chassis paint?

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
as you can see, there is quite a bit of extra material over lapping the windshield frame, we cut some out of the upper roof to see what needed to be done, and decided to start with the inside, using cleco's, we held the inner roof in place, and marked it for a rough cut, after the cut, we replaced cleco's with small self tapping screws to hold it tight

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
with the inner held in place, we moved to the outer, the remaining steel above window frame didn't have quite the right angle, so we heated it up and bent it down with a pair of channel locks, finished the rough cut of the upper roof, and began the cleco process from the middle out, pie cutting the corner to get it to fit properly

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
had to cut the corner some more to work it together, replaced some clecos with self tapping screws, ground the extra material down to window frame, tack weld together, stopped for some lunch, then back to work the driver side

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
oh yeah, I love doing this, unfortunately with school I have only been getting about a month a year to work on it, but its moving along nicely in my opinion. a large majority of the major custom work has been done thankfully, only major things left to do after the dash is to section the hood, and suicide doors

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
I don't have it all planned out exactly yet, kind of a do it as I go and make sure it looks alright, but I do plan on keeping the glove box door and just stretching it to match the new opening.

Re: Project Immoral Appearance
so went out tonight with the goal of building the middle section of the dash, took some time to tack weld some reinforcements in, starting making the upper middle dash section, didn't like it how I was doing it, so cut it apart to do it a different way, got that tack welded in, and then took a bunch more measurements to realize that when I tacked the reinforcements in, I accidentally bumped one side of the dash up and over, ended up cutting a bunch of the tack welds, and re-tacking it back into place, what a surprise, it looks a lot more square now lol, gotta work on more patches tomorrow, as well as stretching the glove box door. Need to buy some steel conduit to start shaping how the out sections will meet the cab
