Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
mknittle, it is Harbor Freights 110 volt electric winch and I will check tonight on the # of teeth on the sprockets. It comes out to I think about 24 inches a minute in the speed with the winch motor and the sprockets. It is very powerfull. It will do a complete AD beltline profile in one shot.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
mknittle, The winch motor turns at 20 RPM , the sprocket on the motor is a 12 tooth and then the upper sprocket is a 80 tooth. With the diameter of my dies it comes to 24 inches per minute. Which is nice and slow so you can follow your lines.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
Henry, Thank you. I am going to send you that info tonight, it has been crazy lately. I will keep my eyes out.
I will have some more pictures by the end of the week on this truck. I am finishing the inner cowls , fabbing a radiator support, finishing the pedal mounts up and mounting the steering column. I am picking up a hood for it tommorrow because his had rotted to much. Shannon

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
Here is the hood I picked up tonight. It needs a little work but a lot better than the other one. It was $50 which I thought was a good deal. I will be finishing up the floor hopefully tomorrow, except the tranny tunnel. His shifter adapter has been on back order for 3 months now and I do not want to make it till I have the shifter mounted. Then I have to make the radiator support. He just got me a double pass radiator with the inlet and exit on the same side for the 5.3 motor. So I will mount it and then bolt the fenders on and make the mounts to tie it to the fenders like I did on the 54 truck.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
yeah 50 aint bad, but boy that adds up when you buy parts here in there. I could have bought about two complete trucks with all my part buying, literally.
But its fun finding parts all over and collecting them, saving them for projects or bartering with them. Anyway, you will have that looking new in no time.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
99 to Life. I know what you mean about the parts. I look back and think about the parts I got ride of and wished I did not. To know I have to buy them now! It is fun meeting all these different people and seeing there projects. Thank you very much for the great T shirt and the gogo juice (coffee).
oldman3, Yes more parts. I got the inner cowl pieces made and welded in the drivers side in tonight. The passenger side is going to be tomorrow right after work. Shannon

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
I got a lot done after work today. I finished welding in the passenger side inner cowl panel. Then I put the front fenders on and used my old grill to tie them together. Then I made the radiator support. Next is to put in a cross bar below the steering box for the radiator support to sit on and then make the mounts for the fenders to tie into. I should have that finished up this weekend.

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
I had about a half day to work on it today and got a lot done. I first started out bolting my spare grill and radiator/latch cover on and then welded a cross tube across the frame. Then set in the radiator support I made and cut the uprights that hold it at the level I wanted. Then welded on the fender tabs. I still have to make the inner fender braces. My buddy does not have the factory ones so I will make them like I did on the 54 I did. The next thing I did was cut and weld a tube in under the dash to tie the steering column in better and that also ties in to the brake booster recess so there is not flexing when you push on the brakes. Then I mounted the steering column but I have to make a spacer for the column. My buddy ordered a 2 1/4" column drop but the column is 2". So I will just turn one up on a lathe at work. There is the time when working in a machine shop really pays off. I still have some work on the brake pedal unit but it will be done this week. Then back on the panel truck soon.
Shannon

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
Looking forward to thread on the Panel. I am just starting a re-do on my 1948 GMC Panel and am working alone. I can use all the help and ideas I can get. I have built the frame from a 55 Chevy pickup. Firebird front end, disc ,power steering and brakes, 400transmission and a shortened Dana 60 rear end with tub support. I am a little anxious about how to connect the dots for the body to frame mounts and the 55 chassis is 1 1/2" shorter than the 48 frame. I am sure I can put it all together it just gets lonely trying to figure it all out ( the wife does bring me beer!)

99 to Life, Thank you. I too can not wait till my 54 cab looks like it too!
oldman3, Thank you. Carribean Blue 72, You need to do a build thread on your panel with lots of pictures. We all love pictures. If you need any answers or pictures of how I did it just let me know. Well push it outside to sweep up under it and snapped some pictures and then put my other cab in to make some window repair patches for britnjc. I got the doors back and some other things. So I will have lots of pictures this weekend. I am going to gap the doors, make the headlight buckets and put 55 chevy truck eye brows on the fenders. So here is the latest. Shannon

Re: 1948 Chevy / S10
Those patch pieces look great. Especially the ones for the windshield. man she is gonna be a low rider. How far off the frame is the cab? Is he running stock springs and shocks in front?
