Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
Lowered, schmowered... I say go 4x4!
On, and off road capable, and they are great for checking out legs of women in cars That's just me, I dig being up higher than everyone in my truck. Since I can see over the car ahead of me, and I can be more aware of the traffic I am surrounded in. Maybe it's the biker in me, always needing to be aware of my surroundings. Do what your heart says to do. Don't do what others want. Be proud of what you have. These trucks look awesome no matter how they are set up!

You know your kid better than any of us, so you have to decide which way to go. If you are giving him the truck, it will be his to do as he wishes. I had a truck given to me (51 Chev) when I was around 19. You can have it but you cant do this or that ... Hated that truck, never really seemed to be mine so I got rid of it.

Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
As much as I love your truck... the 67-68 body style looks better lowered. I lowered my 68 but left stock hub caps on it and feel it looks good and rides just as good as it did before I lowered it. I did change the rear springs once after lowered because the 4" drops were very stiff and did not ride as well as the 5" springs I purchased from Mcguaneys (sp?). It is my favorite truck to drive, but understand the snowball effect as I am replacing the stock and well worn 327 and th400 with a brodix headed 383 and a new th400 with 2800 coan stall. I was really hesitant about this part but heck it is a truck and it going to make it even more fun to drive. Have fun with your kid and your truck that is what it is all about anyway.

Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
Is anyone keeping count here?
1 let him mod it 2 leave it alone 3 buy him one of his own Obviously each one of us feel strongly one way or the other about this fine truck. We each feel strongly as to what would benefit the boy the most also. My dad and I built my first car together. We started when I was 14 and had it ready for when I turned 16. We never did much together before and dad saw it as an opportunity to spend some good time together teaching me while filling a void in his life as he always wanted to build himself a car but never had the time or money once the family started. It was a good bonding time for us. I couldn't wait for him to get home each night so we could work on the car some more. I knew every inch of the car and could do anything to it when completed. It was a great experience and I was very proud of it and took good care of it too. He was pretty proud of it too. He said he would give me the car but I'd have to buy the insurance, gas and if I tore it up I'd have to pay for repairs. I feel like children appreciate things more when they have to earn them. I think helping him find and buy one of his own is a good choice and keep yours to enjoy all the while giving him a goal to aim for. A reference point and measuring stick. Good memories can be made at this time. Good luck.

If you retain the stock parts somewhere and don't cut/notch, then airbags are the best indeed, since you select on the fly. As for me, here's a list of the Top 25 things I will not be doing to my truck: 1) Lowering it 2) Putting dubs on it 3) Putting 20" subs in it 4) Painting flames on it 5) Pin striping porn tats on it 6) Jacking the back end up with shackles 7) Putting 10" tires on it 8) Hanging dice from the mirror 9) Displaying it with stuffed animals under the hood 10) Displaying it with a little model of itself on the air cleaner 11) Blasting 50s music at a 70s car show 12) Telling people that I once taped a $100 bill to the dash but it had so much power that no one could grab it 13) Telling people that I found a '70 Super Cheyenne 402 for $500 because a clueless old lady advertised it as a "70 Chevy" after her son died in the latest war 14) Drive it with a raccoon tail tied to the antenna 15) Put dual antennas sticking out the back of it 16) Add fake patina or call rust and wear "patina" 17) Pass off crappy workmanship as "rat rodding it" 18) Use a beer can as a coolant overflow 19) Clamp my tach to the column with a giant hose clamp 20) Hang 3 OReilys gauges under the dash in a 10-cent chrome bezel 21) Mud flaps with the profile of a naked chick or Yosemite Sam on them 22) Plastic tinted bug deflector on the front (though my truck came with one) 23) Tissue box or baseball hat in the back window 24) Airbrush a half-naked Viking lady on the underside of the hood 25) Install an 8-inch exhaust tip with a glass pack muffler Some might say I'm not having any fun. But like all fads, lowering too shall pass, and I won't be stuck with a truck that looks "so totally 2000s". Until then my truck will have a "dorky stock ride height", but the beauty of stock is that all you have to do is wait, and soon enough it will be cool again :-) Cheers! Dave

Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
Props to my boy Al for borrowing his Billet Specialties. Just wait till the son sees that pic.
Al's picture was a little further away thats why the wheels look a little pixelated.. but, it would definitely change the looks and most of all the attitude of the truck. You could do this and buy your son a truck to build! Problem solved. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
make him buy his own truck if he wants to drive a truck that looks like he wants it to look. Im 18 and i've bought a 89 f150, 67 mustang, and a 68 c10. im glad i bought all my vehicles with money that i earned. not one cent was given to me. i sold the f150 and the mustang and im keeping the c10. it just took me a while to find the right vehicle

Re: my son (18) wants me to lower my truck ?
Your black truck would look great with the drop and wheels as I posted above. ... but I still say leave this one as is and help him start a 71-72 of his own.
Lifted or bagged, shaved and billet.. its your truck. Do as you wish. If you dont like mine, just dont look at it. Just my thoughts. The fact is these trucks are gaining popularity for both modified and stock trim. Like that blue patina'd up 68 that sold for 16,555 a few days ago. Either way they're worth a lot of money. There's a butt for every seat. Posted via Mobile Device
