Slosh tubz squared ....ready to take orders !

Hey guys i just want to bring out an issue that OLDSALTYONE brought to my attention last night ! Depending on how wide your front wheels are (his are 10 1/2 's in front) and how much backspacing you have your wheel and tire might contact this inner bolt on part ( i have it marked ) if you do have this issue you have probably already trimmed out the area that i have made for the bolts to bolt in, if so you will need to trim the Tubz in this general area depending on your exact needs , here are a few pictures regarding my suggested trim area ! You still have all of the front bolts including 2 up the front edge and the 2 big back bolts going into the firewall plus 2 going up the back edge, if you want to call me , Mike Losh 1 479 599 9664

Initial mock-up on the driver side. I tried to make a template & creep up on the amount of material required for install but the gaps are too big for my taste. I'll have to fab some inner skins. You'll also need to use longer hardware as the OE stuff isn't long enough to go through the tub material & engage the threads.

True.... But it also adds to the complexity of things. A line has to be drawn somewhere on projects that aren't full-on builds.

It's a start. I have to get materials to allow forming the areas where I'm clearancing for the a/c components. I'll make something solid enough that it's the 'buck', get's new glass & can maintain it's structure once removed (the big challange).

Might even be able to fit a batt in the OE location w/new mounts fabbed. OE brackets don't look like they'll work.

Yes & no....

I didn't on the driver side. I knew I was being pretty optimistic to think I'd make the required cuts & get things close enough that some sort of trim garnish/welting could cover the gaps & provide a finished appearance. Even w/R&R'ing the tub numerous times, once it was finally installed the gaps were not consistent enough for my initial plan. This of course means fabbing a new inner structure or something.

For the pass side, I just made the initial cuts leaving enough material to allow attaching a panel (if I go that route) or see how it would look if the entire structure were just removed.

The pass side went much faster & was much less frustrating w/the revised approach.

i wonder if you can use thin plastic sheet (or the bigger vinyl 33 rpm records wish would be a good and legit way to get rid of sinatra's greates hits or greatest hitcollection from sesami street ) for forming the gaps that need filling , heating the sheet up (could drop it in boiling water ) untill its flexible then grab it with thick cloves and slap it against the hole from the bottom to form around the objects sticking in the hole and contoured against wats around the hole
you might need to use some filler too to make the plastic look nicer and create enough room around the objects and then use that as a buck for the mould

Took a break for some family time for a few weeks, but finally got around to my install. I can't lay it out because the bump there to clear the heater lines on the pass side hits the tire about 2" from laid out, so I have some more trimming on the pass side, but they are mostly in.

for those of you that know more about the earlier squares 73-78? Could you take the 80's model cowl mounted hood hinge and cut a hole into the cowl panel and bolt these up like they are done on the 80's models and then modify the hood bolt on part of the brackets off of the old one on to the new one and have a set of cowl mounted hood hinges ?? I am just thinking , anyone else think this might work ? i am not familiar enough with the earlier cowl areas to know if this is a valid idea or not ?

i think the best way to find out is mounting the radiator support with the catch for the hood , and the hood without the inner and outer fenders , close the hood and start measuring

i seen one time where they only used the rear part of the mount and put two gasstruts on the front , these mounted on existing treads for the inner outer fenders and hood and worked verry nice , no folding the bonnet at closing because of rusty mounts
