Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
I'm just going to focus on the air suspension right now. I've got a lot to do. Have to install the new shorty headers and redo the exhaust so it not hanging below the frame. Need to install my step notches and rear bags and lowering blocks. Then I need to do the front disc brakes, drop spindles, front bags and mount my accuair EXO mount and get it all wired. I've got lots to do! The rockers will have to wait until next year I think. I do want to do the roof soon though because I need to seal up that drip rail before the truck sees rain.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
I'm having a hard time getting bags for some reason. I ordered re-7 slams from KMS in November and they still haven't arrived. If they don't show up this week and I am going buy a set online. I might just go with the dominator D2600. My headers are flow tech 67 camaro shorty headers. I haven't installed them yet but they look like they will fit no problem.

With all the options out there for bags and control systems, any reason you made these choices?
I'm trying to figure out what I need to put a system on and would like to find a list of what I need. Posted via Mobile Device

Have a look at the AVS website. They are a vendor here. They are lots of options and a good site that allows you to build your own system with drop down menus. Email them or call and talk to jason. I was going to order all my stuff from them, but then this Accuair deal came up and it was too good to pass up.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Thanks man, your truck is sweet. I cant wait to get my Accuair done. Hopefully I will be able to get the frame notched and get the rear bags installed by the end of March. Need to get the exhaust done first tho and get my long tube headers taken off. I think my buddy is going to do that for me in about 2 weeks I hope.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
FINALLY... picked up some different wheels today. Stock steel 6 lug wheels in 15x8 off a 72 Blazer 4x4. I am going to paint them baby blue this week and run them with chrome baby moons and chrome trim rings. It sure will change the look of the truck. I cant wait to get these ugly black wheels off my truck.
These pics arnt mine, but this is sorta what it the wheels will look like and the second pics is how it should look with these new wheels. I wont have white walls though. Im going to run the same tires as I have now. I'll post pics next week when I get them on.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
I like the new look!
I may have a clue as to why your local vendor never produced your Slam 7's. Slam doubled the dealer cost. If your guy priced them to you at the old price, he may have cancelled your order before you did (and didn't tell you). I found out about the price change when I ordered a stage II package from Porterbuilt this morning. SS7s were in that package previously, but Porterbuilt has changed to Dominator 2600's because of the price increase. JK

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
I'm glad to know you've done the research and they are a decent second choice. And obviously Porterbuilt feels the same. IDK anything about them, but they must be OK. PB said the same thing as you, SS are better, but not as much better as the price difference.

The slams have built in bump stops so it's safer to run them at lower psi. I'll try the dominators for now and if I don't like them, I will replace them with ss7's later and put the dominators in my 78 c-10 beater shop truck. Most people run the D2600's so they must be ok. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Not too shabby. Its amazing the difference little things can make. Cheap used side trim $40, new mirrors $80, cheap wheels $50, baby moons $60. before and after.

Love the changes.. The new wheels and drop are great.
If you have any future air bag/ suspension issues , I've got a solution on our side of the border!! I've built a few bagged trucks , and I've learned where to get parts with the least hassle. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Cool thanks. I shall keep that in mind. I've got everything I need for the install except the actual bags themselves. Need to get my exhaust done and rear frame step notch done and then I can start on the suspension.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
HOLY COW my CPP brakes showed up today at KMS. I can't believe it. After 4 months of waiting they finally arrive. I almost ordered a set direct from CPP this week. Good thing I held off.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Wow the truck is looking great, I love those wheels on it!
I've had similar issues with KMS. I don't want to anme any names, but I think somebody there tends to forget things, and I'm not the only other one. I've heard a few people say the same. I waited 3 months for my paint which was apparently mixed and sitting in their Vancouver store within the first week. Tell you the truth I haven't been in there for quite some time. I order most of stuff from the states and go pick it up in either Oroville or Danville (just south of Grand Forks). It ends up being quite a bit cheaper especially if I combine a bunch of different orders. If you ever want to split gas on a border run let me know. I'm going to need to do one within the next couple months so...

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Accuair install still in progress.. still need to get the exhaust done in the next week or so... front brakes, bags and rear notch. Brakes finally arrived and bags have been ordered and should be here in a couple weeks.
Accuair sticker installed today. HA HA. So now I've got my compressor power and fuse installed and my sticker. Yes I am still a kid and like stickers. I hope to get my EXO mount bolted to the frame next week and get the solinoid wired up, wires and controller run into the cab also.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod
Had the truck in my buddy's shop today. Oil change, filter and new oil pan gasket. I went with the Fel Pro one piece silicone rubber gasket. It cost me $75 but I think it's worth it not to have to worry about it leaking again. Sure is a nice looking gasket. Appointment booked for tomorrow AM to do my exhaust and shorty headers. Going to tuck the exhaust up and cut holes through the trailing arm crossmember. I'll post more pics tomorrow of that.
