Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Looks a bit high in the back, those rear shocks were toast, got a set included in the truck so swapped them up, the front has a coil less and new shocks as well..i thought it would be lower..
Need those lowered rear springs bad....

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Thanks Fordsucks..
Should have forgotten about the truck when the PO showed me the Impala he was "fixing", my guess is the guy works in construction.. If I would not have found the parts truck I guess would have been driving around in a bondo/fiberglass/plaster truck..
Wheels will look much better when I get the proper tires.

Heres a bit more, just gathering whats around to bolt it in ( re-sprayed the whole truck) and slowly getting it back together

Need to adjust the door from hell and MUST lower the rear asap

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Not much accomplished today, we re-sprayed the white in the morning, but by noon torrential tropical rains halted most of the work ( Im doing this truck in spare time between the real paying gig)
Still managed to get some progress..
Tried to get the steps on and its a pain, plus got the wrong bolts ( 5/16" and they seem to be 1/4) in one side installed the bracket first but seems like theres no way unless I take the fender off, or bolt the step with the bracket at the same time..
Oh well..
Got a 1913 ford which will take our time from next week on...

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Undecided if spraying the bumpers white or just let them be.
Just noticed that the bed is tilted, but since its not bolted on yet no worries

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Took some time to tinker with the truck today..
Have been encountering slight delay after delay fitting parts that simply should bolt on.

The grille if off, by at least a quarter inch on the passengers side ( PO had hit it somehow) and had removed from the side brackets, the bumper (from donor) is bent inwards on the passengers side as well, the bumper shows a crease on the same line as the bolt holes so I will need a way to pull it and straighten until is acceptable.

Weirdly the radiator started pissing fluid from a pinhole ( that was not there before) we we simply exchanged radiators from the donor truck.

On the steps, somehow the do not line up flat with the fenders and I needed to raise the bed the 1/4 inch that the wood boards will add in order to be able to get the step bracket to work with the step

Does anyone has the distance from the back of the cab and the bed?? Im going to line up and drill the attatchment holes from bed to cross sills next.

Also got to get a couple snapped bolts off ( of course no one told me they had been snapped while removing) so now I gotta take a front and rear fender in order to fix those..Oh well..

Anyway, looking at a 72 tomorrow..

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Assembly has been halted thanks to the flu..
Still pondering if spraying flat clear to the paint, What do you think?
The front bumper is bent a bit inwards on the passengers side and we need to figure out how to fix it.

Went to look at a 72, but needs body work on the roof and the guy wants 2 grand, found another 71 with bad trans for $700, so Ill go check it out as soon as I can..

Re: New here and new to older trucks..

Back to the grind..
Front bumpers needs some time to straighten out, so decided to use a good white one, which means I will have to paint the chrome rear..

Ordered the rear lowered springs (4") can't wait to get them..

Been re-assembling little by little and still need to order a few parts here and there, mostly small plastic parts and such.
Got some of the dash lights and gauges working as well..
Will get some progress shots tomorrow, nothing important..

It will fund another project. I really dig short bed fleetsides and have seen a couple, but I guess it will be more convenient on a longbed to haul the bikes around.
( already bought a 72 step to flip, but my dad kept it,so Im working on that next)

Missed a chance on a 69 longbed already..
Have some ideas for the next one..
