sprayed some primer on after it hit these with a wire wheel.

yes, i want to send the cab off to the sandblaster so this is a waste of time. but i plan on doing a little patching here and there before it goes to the blaster so i figured i'd stop some of the rust from getting worse til i can weld in some patches this fall. im thinking early spring b4 i can send it to the sandblaster.

Duplicolor primer then Duplicolor Gloss Black Engine paint next. when the cab is off i'll do the rest of the frame. remember, this was a scrapyard save and im not trying to make a show truck out of it. POR-15 worked well on my 67's frame which has been sitting in the sun for 6 years now, but im thinking the Rust Fix may do almost as good. if i see rust surfacing in a couple year, it will just add to the patina look im going for

Looks pretty rough but nothing that can't be fixed with a little time and effort.
Makes me appreciate how good mine was to start with.

im hoping i can do something with it. i'd love to replace the floor and firewall the way you did yours. are there any bodydrop builds out there you can point me to? im wanting to do a 2 or 3 inch body drop with a low static drop with a sid drop axle. 2 1/2 inches of ground clearance in the end with a 235/70/15. i've been looking for a 70's camaro front clip but cant find any camaro's in the junkyards. i have a spare complete 73-87 crossmember already but from what i see on other builds they are a tad too wide and they would hang too low

I've seen that truck at the Brothers Show and the Grand National Roadster show.
Has a ton of work done to it. I don't remember what he did to the suspension.

so i've done alittle research and found this thread:

seems a flipped front and rear is doable. the bump steer i kept hearing about can be fixed with a steering stablizer and mounting the draglink level with the frame. my thoughts are to flip the front and get the 4 inches then take a leaf out or 2.

different, but doable. i wonder how it drives. he never posted an update of it after getting it driveable.
lots of ideas out there on the internet, i just am a little leery of some of the projects that are in the works.
i consider bump steer part of the geometry of a straight axle, though it can be minimized, it will never go away.





for some reason, i like his finished yellow 58 truck



as for the rearend, he did pretty much the same thing as i did.
cheap way to do it if you source your own parts, instead of buying a kit.

Mine was flipped in the front and rear when first got it...drove like krud. But there was no notch in the front either. This is what a lot of the traditional lowrider guys do but with a bag over leaf in addition to the flip and notch.
Im not sure youll be thrilled with the ride after all that work though. If you cant find a camaro clip in your area, have you considered a jag i.f.s? 59" hub to hub, usually around 200-300, easy to bag. To fit in a 34" wide frame they require a little trimming, but it fits. Some guys notch thier frame to get as low possible. If you are on the HAMB 4t6ford started a group called jag ifs swaps. Lots of good info there.

i thought i read somewhere on the thread he thought it rode pretty good.
yeah, mine is getting a deep c notch or step...not sure. i'll prob use coil overs or air shocks.
im not sure about the front. but if i flip it and c-notch then adj out with spring pulling and i dont like it....not out much....little labor...no big deal. i can always wait til i find a frame clip...i got the time.

by the way...i got a chevy 235 to put in it. the ford 6 is for sale, so i dont have to worry about trying to get it to fit and mess with driveshaft mods.

would it have been a better ride with a c-notch and airshocks? less leaf springs? i do still want it to ride like an old truck....LOL...i know that doesnt make sense but i want it to be a tad rougher than stock...LOL

"68-86 (87 in US) XJ6 (and XJ12) XJ-S and XJS 1975-1996 for front suspension - not sure about the XJ40 but could be 1987 through 1992. 59" or 59-1/2" hub to hub. Steering racks vary - quickest ratio is late mid 1993 to 1996 XJS. "
I copied this from another thread, the info seems consistent with what i have read and the jag unit i am tearing apart currently. The one i have is from the mid 80's, though i dont know the exact year as i got it second hand off CL.
Heres a pic of it torn down to the A arms & spindles...
